This program is a part of the project "The Objective Index of the Evaluation System inDealing with the Liver-Qi Stagnation Syndrome and the Neurobiologica1 Basis Intervened by Compound Herbal Formu1ae", which is supported by the specific fund for the college topnotch Ph.D candidates of colleges under the supervision of the Chinese Education Ministry. The paper of this program studies Xiaoyao Powder systematically in terms of its macro-micro indexes through document study, specialist consultations and clinical experiment argumentation. The Wilcoxon test with the SAS6.l2 Software is used to confirm the indexes, ana1yze the main Ingredients and eva1uate comprehensively the formula. The purpose of the studytries toPrimarily establish a standard objective research scheme related to the experimental argumentation for the macro-micro indexes when it is app1ied in treatment for various diseases to re1ieve symptoms and adjust the experimenta1 indexes, which will offer a new trend and method towards the standardization in dealing with Syndromes in traditional Chinese medicine. The paper is divided into two parts: the theoretical research on syndromes treated byXiaoyao Powder and its clinical study.1. The Theoretical Research on the Syndromes Treated by Xiaoyao Powder The theoretical study includes two parts: the theory about liver-qi stagnation and liver-qi stagnation with deficiency in the spleen. The former is an important component part of thetheory of traditional Chinese medicine, which has been attached great significance by pracitioners in history and achievements have been obtained. ln this paper the academic viewpoints of various schools on the theory of liver-qi stagnation and liver-qi stagnation with deficiency in the spleen are recorded through a relatively complete study of the ancient and modern medical literature, for which the theoretical progress has been systematized. In addition the paper discusses about the relation between the syndrome 0f liver-qi stagnation and escess of liverqi, deficiency of liver-qi and their mutual change. The experimentalstudy confirms that liver-qi stagnation and liver-qi stagnation with deficiency in the spleen belong to a big complex system; and it has been found that they are related to various clinical departments, and correct methods in treatment for liver-qi stagnation has become the importam method dealing with some difficult and chronic cases.2. Research on the Syndromes Treated by Xiaoyao PowderIn our study we first explored into the ancient and modern medical literature and tried to find out the basis in differentiation of syndromes(symptoms, tongue and pulse conditions, when the formula was app1ied. The general situation, symptoms, tongue and pulse conditions were summed up and filled in forms, and then expert questionnaire for consultation was conducted. A summery was made based on the above result. The median statistics of the symptom occurrence was done, 0n which a quantitative form was designed. Clinically three physicians saw the same patient separately and the quantitative form was re-designed. For those which had been included in the standard case examples Xiaoyao Powder and Zibai Dihuang Pills were prescribed. According to the quantitative form the index change related to symptoms, nervous and endocrine systems were recorded, and then the Wilcoxon test wasdone with the SAS6.12 Statistics Software, at the same time the main ingredients were ana1yzed and the total curative effect was evaluated. Finally the experimental argumentation related to the macro-micro indexes of Xiaoyao Powder was carried out, and the comprehensive evaluation system concerning the objective indexes of Xiaoyao Powder was set up.3. ConclusionThe paper collects relative1y complete documents about liver-qi stagnation, liver-qi stagnation with deficiency in the spleen and the academic viewpoints of various schools Who studied Xiaoyao Powder. Based on the literature logic it summarizes all the documents rather completely and...
