Study oneThe investigation of the models of rat pancreas transplantation atone with enteric drainageAbstract Objective: To investigate the way to establish the model of the rat's pancreas transplantation alone (PTA) with enteric drainage. Methods: SD rats were randomly assigned to 2 groups: Group control consisted of 10 nondiabetis rats, group PTA consisted of 22 diabetic rats which received PTA from the normal donors. Diabetic rats were induced by streptozotocin. Venous drainage of PTA performed using end-to-side anastomosis between the donors' abdominal aorta segment and recipients' abdominal aorta, and end-to-end anastomosis between the donors' portal vein segment andrecipients' left renal vein (use a cuff). Pancreas exocrine drainage was made by pancreas intestine anastomosis (Roux-Y). The blood glucose, body weight, food intake, water intake and urine volume were monitored before transplantation and on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 30t day after it. Results: The mean duration of operation of Group PTA in donors was (32.2 12.7) min, and hat in recipients was (63.4 15.9) min, the mean duration of warm ischemic time was 0 min and that of cold ischemic time was (48.6 18.3) min. 11 (50%) of the 22 cases in Group PTA died or lost their function of the endocrine within 1 month. The main complications were followed panceatitis and pancreas leak after transplantation (7 cases, 31.8%). All successful recipients' blood glucose lowed on the first days after transplantation(P<0.01), and their food intake, water intake and urine volume decreased and became stable 14 days later(P<0.01). Conclusion: Successful PTAs may recover the pancreatic endocrine function of the diabetic rats.
