Objective: To determine whether the YQTXFZPY acupuncture methods used in the TCM treatment of Multiple Infarction Dementia improve the Learning and Memory activity and the associated neural biochemical mechanism. Methods: Multiple infarction dementia model in rats were made by injection of homogenous microthrombi into internal carotid artery(ICA) through external carotid artery and Morris water maze was used to detect the learning and memory ability of these rats. The contents of monoamine, excitatory amino acids (EAAs) and acetylcholine (Ach) were measured in rat brain tissue to explore the possible neural biochemical mechanisms of YQTXFZPY acupuncture methods. Results: 1.YQTXFZPY acupuncture methods can significantly shortened the escaping time of Morris water maze (P<0.05 ) . Compared with the model group, the percentage .of the rat swimming time and swimming distance in platform quadrant was markedly higher in treatment group. 2. The contents of CA (NE, DA, 5-HT) in model group decreased significantly(P < 0.05 ) while those in treatment group increased significantly(P<0.05) . And the contents of EAAs(GLU, GLN, ASP, ASN) increased significantly(P<0.05)while those in treatment group decreased significantly(P<0.05). Conclusion: It may conclude that YQTXFZPY acupuncture methods improved the learning and memory ability in MID rats through the modulation of metabolize turbulence of CA and Ach and the antagonism of...
