Objective To study on the significance of CT-accessment in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis and the correlation among the severity of symptoms, the extent of CT and the results of endoscopic examination.Method Prospective data were collected over a 9-month period from June, 2003 to February, 2004. The results of CT scans were graded according to Lund-Mackay stage system, and patients were asked to grade each of rhinosinusitis symptoms listed from 0 to 10, 0 was given for no symptom at all and 10 indicated the most severe extent of a symptom. The score of endoscopic examination was from 0 to 2 in 5 aspects. The correlation was determined by Linear regression. Results No association was noted between CT score and severity of sinus-related symptoms. There was correlation between CT score and endoscopic score, between nasal obstruction score and CT score, between smell impairment and CT score, between nasal obstruction and endoscopic score, between headache and endoscopic score and between smell impairment and endoscopic score. Conclusion Combinadation of symptom, CT score and endoscopic examination will be the gold standard for the diagnose of the chronic rhinosinusitis. If condition were limited, we could decide whether to do CT on the basis of the results of endoscopic examination.
