Objective:The aim of this paper seeks to understand how different kinds of acupuncture treatment can lead to a change in matrix metabolism. Using acupuncture, electroacupuncture and acupuncture with moxibustion treatment techniques, we did a Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) Experiment on forty-two rabbits. The results showed a change in metabolism factors, including, Types II Collagen; Proteoglycans; MMP-1; TIMP-1; MMP-l/TIMP-1; IGF-1; and TGF- β1.Methods:Forty two rabbits were randomly selected and divided into six groups. Each group is administered with different acupuncture treatment. They are:( a ) Compare group (or should they be called "control group", thatmeans, no treatment given; ( b ) Knee Osteoarthritis Experiment (KOA) group (injected withpapain );( c ) KOA model with electroacupuncture treatment group; ( d ) KOA model with acupuncture with moxibustion treatmentgroup; ( e ) KOA model with acupuncture treatment group ; and...
