Objective To observed the effect of "Yiqitiaoxue, Fubenpeiyuan" acupuncture method combining traditional Chinese herb on the changes of then-behavior and neurohumor of the brain tissue of 6-month-old senescence accelerated mouse (Senile-Prone, SAMP8), which were compared with those of 6-month-old SAMR1 (Senile-Resistant).Methods After treatment of 15 days, the learning and memory ability was measured by Morris water maze test; The neurotransmitters were measured by highly efficient liquid chromatography and electrochemistry assay. Results (1) The learning and memory abilities of 6-month-old SAMP8 declined more significantly than that of SAMR1.(2) The learning and memory abilities of SAMP8 was significantly improved by the means of "Yiqitiaoxue, Fubenpeiyuan" acupuncture method\ traditional Chinese herb.(3) The amount of Dopamine (DA) and Aceylacholine (Ach) in the brain tissue of SAMP8 tended to decrease, which was compared with that of SAM Rl; whereas Aspirate (Asp) and Glutamate acid (Glu) increase.(4) "Yiqitiaoxue, Fubenpeiyuan" acupuncture method \ traditional Chinese herb can increase the lower amount of Ach; decrease the higher amount of Asp, Glu and Asparagines (Asn). Conclusions The mechnism of "Yiqitiaoxue, Fubenpeiyuan" acupuncture method \ traditional Chinese herb may be due to adjusting the amount of the central neurotransmitters. This experiment indicates the mechanism of treating dementia with "Yiqitiaoxue, Fubenpeiyuan" acupuncture method \ traditional Chinese herb by testing neurohumor.
