Being the characteristic chemical constituent of Uvaria genus (Annonaceae), It is reported polyoxygenated cyclohexenes had antitumor activity. In order to research the resourse of Uvaria species and to discover more antitumor agents from the nature, Uvaria tonkinensis var. subglabra Finet et Gagnep growing in Hainan province was subjected to phytochemical studies. Twenty two compounds were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract using silical gel and Sephedax LH-20 colomu chromatography and structurally identified by means of various modern spectroscopic techniques and based upon their physical properties. Among them, three were new compounds, including one containing chlorine compound and one first reported tertiary amide cerebroside. The antitumor activity of polyoxygenated cyclohexenes from Uvaria tonkinensis var. subglabra F. were tested using MTT method. From the pharmacological results, compound SUB-2 was found to show more potent activity than others.Zeylenone belong to a class of polyoxygenated cyclohexenones firstly isolated from Uvaria grandiflora Roxb, and was found to show strong antitumor activity. Due to the scarcity from the natural sources and the interests of their biological activities,...
