Background:Gastric carcinoma, one of the most common human malignant tumors, ranks worldwide as the first leading cause of gastrointestinal cancer-related mortality.Although great advances had been made in the field of gastric carcinoma diagnosis and therapy, most part of patients with gastric cancer were found advanced gastric cancer, and the prognosis was poor. The study of HERs provides the hope for breast cancer, while Syk (Spleen Tyrosine Kinase ,Syk) was thought to be against HER2. So attention was placed on relation between Syk and human gastric cancer.Syk is a protein-tyrosine kinase. Its expression has been found in various cells such as the hematopoietic, lymphocyte, fibroblast and vascular endothelial cells. Syk was extracted from porcine spleen cDNA library and therefore named as Spleen Tyrosine (Y) Kinase. Human Syk locus was mapped to be chromosome 9 at band q22, molecular weighted 72KD.
