PurposeThe clinical prospects of injectable calcium sulfate were verified through the mechanical tests, degradation and osteogenesis abilities' experiments, and the physicochemistry characteristics and biomechanical appreciation were evaluated.Materials and MethodsPhysicochemical examination of injectable calcium sulfate cement: Physicochemical characteristics of setting time, compression strength, injectability, setting temperature and porosity were evaluated in vitro. Product of injectable calcium sulfate cement were tested by scanning electron microscope (SEM).Biocompatibility evaluation of injectable calcium sulfate cement: Osteoblast were cultured with injectable calcium sulfate cement extracting solution or cement specimen. Cell relative growth rate was measured by MTT methods.Application of injectable calcium sulfate cement in goat lateral tibial plateau compression fracture: Bilateral tibial plateau compression fractures were made in ten goats. The fractures were reduced and fixed with injectable calcium sulfate cement or autograft. Specimens of tibial plateau were retrieved 3 months and 6 months after operation. X-ray and tibia plateau compression rigidity were tested. Degradation of injectable calcium sulfate cement and new bone formation were evaluated in nondecalcified section.Establishment of the animal models of osteoporosis: Adult female rats were ovariectomized(OVX). At 3-month intervals thereafter samples of blood and urine were collected for the assay of calcium and phosphorum and ALP. Rats were weighed and bone mineral density (BMD) was measured, using dual-energy X-ray...
