Objective To investigate the histology and biochemistry differences between the cartilage of the residual ear of microtia patient and of normal human being. Methods 20 cartilage specimen from 20 about 10-years-old Microtia patient's residual ears and from 14 normal ears of 7 cadaver of the same age were sectioned and dyed by HE method and elastic fiber method and observed microscopically. 7 specimen of each group were sent to be measured by electrophoretic mobility shift assay and spectrophotometer for collagen Glycoaminoglycan (GAG) , Chondroitin sulfate (Chs) ,Hyaluronan(HA) and Keratan sulfate(KS) Conclusions under microscope, the cartilage of microtia have more vessels than the normal ear cartilage, 3 of 20 sections have vessels, one of them even has 9 vessels, while none was found in the normal group (p<0.05).The cells along the vessels were lightly dyed under HE sections. More isogenious cells were found in normal ear cartilage, reflecting a more active proliferation state. Biochemical analysis shows no significant difference were found of the collagen contents of the two group. The microtia cartilage has more GAG (49.00 + 25.60 μ g/mg) than the normal (28.25 + 4.80 μ g/mg) 。 the composition of GAG were different in two groups, microtia group (HA 38.96+4.97%, Chs 29.02±4.12%, KS32.16 + 7.41%) v&s normal group (HA32.94 + 3.24%, Chs 33.10 + 2.61%, KS 33.96± 1.66%) . They were different in HA and Chs relative contents, but not in KS。...
