It is known that acute traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) initiates a series of inflammatory reaction in central nervous system, such as activation of intrinsic glia, infiltration of the damaged site by peripheral leucocytes, production of various inflammatory and chemical factors. All these mentioned reaction plays very important role in pathologic mechanism of secondary injury in spinal cord.Nitric oxide (NO), one of metabolic productions initiated by SCI, is being thought highly based on its role in pathologic process of injury. Deeply research on the mechanism of synthesis, reaction and clearance of NO will do favor of clinical doctors, help them extend the idea of curing SCI. It would bring new hope about relieving second SCI and leading to better outcome.Synthesis of NO requires L-arginine, is highly regulated by NOS.
