Objective:To discuss the connection between MS deficiency and sthenia syndrome and the clinicalsymptoms, physical signs and laboratory indexes, and to explore the objective essence of MSdeficiency and sthenia syndrome. Methods:The study is based on the definition about Metabolic Syndrome (2005) and theboundary standard between the Chinese adult overweight and the diabetes (2002) proposedby the diabetes work group and the coordinating group on summarization of data, both ofwhich are stated by the International Diabetes Federation, IDF. Excess and deficiencysyndrome is based on diagnosis standard stated in Chinese Medical Terminology on ClinicalDiagnosis and Treat——Syndrome Complex (1997). 124 MS patients are selected as thestudied objects, which are divided, according to the Chinese medical differentiation, into 53cases of deficiency syndrome and 71 cases of sthenia syndrome, with 60 healthy people as acontrasting group. The study is to survey the clinical symptoms and the quantized scores ofphysical signs of MS patients and healthy group, to examine several experimental indexes andhave the results analyzed by means of variance, linear regression and discipiminant, and tofind out the most relevant clinical symptoms, physical signs and laboratory indexes with theMS deficiency and sthenia syndrome.Results:1. Results of meaning analysis and rand sum test①The 11 indexes of MS deficiency and sthenia patients——fasting blood-glucose,triglyceride, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, blood viscosity(low), plasm viscosity, fibrinogen, CRP, MDA,TXB2, and ET——are higher than those of normal person, with statisticdifferences; while the 5 indexes——ISI, high density lipoprotein, SOD, 6- KetoPGF1α, NOS ——are lower with statistic differences.②The 11 indexes of MS sthenia patients——fasting blood-glucose, fasting insulin, triglyceride, blood viscosity(high), blood viscosity(low), plasm viscosity, hematokrit, fibrinogen, CRP, TXB2, and ET——are higher than those of MS deficiency patients, withstatistic differences; while the 3 indexes——plasm SOD, 6- KetoPGF1α, NOS——are lowerwith statistic differences. Whereas, there is no statistic differences between MS deficiencyand sthenia according to the 5 indexes——ISI, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, lowdensity lipoprotein, MDA.③There exist statistic differences in the extent of close connection between MSdeficiency and sthenia patients and DiabetesⅡ, fatty liver and hyperlipemia.④There are all together 40 clinical symptoms and physical signs of MS deficiency andsthenia patients, with statistic differences. They are as follows: breathing hard and weariness, spiritlessness and indolence, pale complexion, light colored lips and fingernail, dizzling, numbness in hands and feet, night sweat, flushing of zygomatic region after noon, smotheryfever, thirst, dispel cold, stickiness in the mouth, scanty yellowish urine, copious and clearurine, carebaria and weariness, impaired appetite, loose stools, coughing, asthma, expectoration, anorexia, physical soreness, abdominal tendeness, purple and dark lips, purpleand dark onyx, red tongue, light tongue, purple and dark tongue, dotted tongue, sublingualvarices, lack of fur, greasy fur, yellow fur, white fur, feeble pulse, thready pulse, soft pulse, stringy pulse and unsmooth pulse.2. Results of Linear Regression Analysis①6 laboratory indexes are brought into the regression equation whose dependentvariable is the accumulative points (y) of the patients with Ms deficiency syndrome. They aretriglyceride, blood viscosity(low), CRP, 6- KetoPGF1α, NOS, plasm SOD. The regressionequation is y=1.723+2.865X1+1.075X2+0.109X3+0.008531X4+0.02525X5+1.594X6; Another6 laboratory indexes are brought into the regression equation whose dependent variable is theaccumulative points (y) of the patients with Ms sthenia syndrome. They are fibrinogen,TXB2,blood viscosity, ET, fasting blood-glucose, blood viscosity(high). The regression equation isy=31.232-1.575X1+0.08628X2+1.921X3-0.000763X4-5.712X5+1.055X6. Both of regressionequations are valid and regression coefficient is of remarkable significance.②12 symptoms and physical signs are brought into the regression equation whose dependent variable is the accumulative points (y) of the patients with Ms deficiency syndrome. The symptoms and signs include breathing hard and weariness, spiritlessness and indolence, thirst, flushing of zygomatic region after noon, light colored lips and fingernail, thready pulse, copious and clear urine, dispel cold, night sweat, red tongue, pale complexion, smothery fever. The regression equation is y=4.196+0.855X1+0.98X2+2.752X3+3.282X4+6.493X5+0.999X6+2.871X7+1.18X8+0.969X9+1.728X10+4.196X11+0.879X12; Another 11 symptoms andphysical signs are brought into the regression equation whose dependent variable is theaccumulative points (y) of the patients with Ms sthenis syndrome. The symptoms and signsinclude purple and dark lip, stickiness in the mouth, expectoration, abdominal tendeness, impaired appetite, sublingual varices, asthma, scanty yellowish urine, anorexia, physicalsoreness, purple and dark onyx. The regression equation isy=6.864+1.369X1+1.622X2+1.818X3+1.666X4+1.188X5+2.487X6+0.933X7+0.491X8+1.911X9+0.758X10+1.47X11. Both of regression equations are valid and regression coefficient is ofremarkable significance.3. Results of Discriminant AnalysisWhen the 7 laboratory indexes of remarkable significance——triglyceride, fibrinogen,CRP, 6- KetoPGF1α, TXB2, NOS, ET——are involved, the discriminant equation is: y1=-26.221+4.611X1+2.5X2+0.259X3+0.02213X4+0.125X5+0.444X6+0.06064X7 y2=-31.797+6.259X1+3.206X2+0.195X3+0.02447X4+0.134X5+0.444X6+0.06349X7According to the values of y1 and y2. those who have a higher value of y1 have a greaterchance of being MS deficiency patients, while those who have a higher value of y2 have agreater chance of being MS sthenia patients. When the 12 symptoms and physical signs——breathing hard and weariness, spiritlessness and indolence, thirst, light colored lips and fingernail, dispel cold, stickiness inthe mouth, night sweat, red tongue, thready pulse, purple and dark lip, expectoration, sublingual varices, scanty yellowish urine——are involved, the discriminant equation is: y1=-13.833+9.838X1+5.913X2-4.555X3-1.727X4+1.074X5+1.327X6+3.628X7+3.971X8+0.608X9+1.841X10+2.376X11+0.619X12; y2=-7.774+3.095X1+1.895X2-2.706X3+1.034X4-0.382X5+2.961X6+6.268X7+2.473X8+1.848X9+4.788X10+1.544X11+0.03781X12.According to the values of y1 and y2, those who have a higher value of y1 have a greater chance of being MS deficiency patients, while those who have a higher value of y2 have agreater chance of being MS sthenia patients.Conclusion:1. The clinical symptoms, physical signs and several laboratory indexes of MSdeficiency and sthenia patients are significantly different from those of normal person.2. In MS division, deficiency patients mainly come down with DiabetesⅡ; atheniapatients mainly down with fatty liver and hyperlipemia; as for high blood pressure andcoronary heart disease, there is no difference between deficiency patients and sthenia ones.3. MS deficiency value is closely connected with 6 laboratory indexes——triglyceride, blood viscosity(low), CRP, 6- KetoPGF1α, NOS, plasm SOD——and 12 symptoms and signs——breathing hard and weariness, spiritlessness and indolence, thirst, flushing of zygomaticregion, light colored lips and fingernail, thready pulse, dispel cold, copious and clear urine, night sweat, red tongue, pale complexion, smothery fever.4. MS sthenia value is closely connected with 6 laboratory indexes——Fbg, TXB2, plasmviscosity, ET, fasting blood-glucose, blood viscosity(high), and 11 symptoms and signs, including purple and dark lips, stickiness in the mouth, expectoration, abdominal tendeness, impaired appetite, sublingual varices, asthma, scanty yellowish urine, anorexia, physicalsoreness, purple and dark onyx.5. When the 7 laboratory indexes (including triglyceride, Fbg, CRP, 6- KetoPGF1α, TXB2,NOS, and ET) and the 12 symptoms and physical signs (including breathing hard andweariness, spiritlessness and indolence, thirst, light colored lips and fingernail, dispel cold, stickiness in the mouth, thready pulse, purple and dark lip, expectoration, sublinguaI varices, and scanty yellowish urine) are involved, the different discriminant equations can beconcluded. According to the values of y1 and y2, those with a higher value of y1 have agreater chance of being MS deficiency patients, while those with a higher value of y2 have agreater chance of being MS sthenia patients. Expected error rates are rather lower.
