The new national image was constructed in wide range of space-time in the New China. Through the innovations of theme, image, space pattern and conception, the landscape painting strengthened its functionalities of realism, narrative and ymbolization, the national image expressed the historical stage and space character of New China directly or indirectly. The landscape painting in this period successfully participated in the construction of national image, created the distinct artistic feature of the age. This article use historical materials about reform on traditional Chinese painting in the fifties and the sixties of 20th century and the space-time perspective to analyze different types of painters and art practices in different regions. It not only includes:the "break and connect" practice shows crossing space-time from traditional painters, the practice shows realistic space-time from painters who break the tradition, the practice shows the space-time linking political culture to traditional experience from mainstream painters and also includes:the "Stranger" culture identity of Changan painting school, the "home" culture belongingness of Jiangsu Chinese Paintine Institute, and the open mind of Linsnan painting school. Through the research on the phenomenon of different types, it summarizes the meaning of complex space-time in the landscape paintings which were composed of new scenes of socialism, space-time symbols of political ideology and the daily life experience under new relationship between time and space. It also highlighted the value of the intermediate link between landscape painting and political culture in New China——the value of interpersonal interaction in the new period.
