As the rising industry of 21 st century, culture industry is concernedmore by scholar and public administrator from China and abroad afterChinese industry being stepped into the later middle stage. Cultureindustry accords with Chinese economic development feature, becausethat less environment polluted. The development of culture industrybenefit to employment, social welfare and human capital, as a result it isimportant to economic development in long run. Furthermore, thedevelopment of culture industry is also in relation to the soft capability ofa country, so it will play important role especially after china’s being thesecond largest economic entity. This thesis is aimed to study culture industry competition on thebackground of China’s culture industry. It is divided into five chapters. Asthe introduction part,Chapter 1 raises the emergence of the study ofculture industry competition. Chapter two discusses the conception andextension of some core factors including culture industry, industrycompetition, culture industry competition and so on which are importantin this thesis. Chapter 3 investigates the theoretical framework andquantity model for culture industry competition. Chapter 4 makes aempirical analysis on the Chinese culture industry competition. The lastchapter makes some policy suggestion on the development of cultureindustry in China on the basis of theoretical analysis, empirical study andinternational experience that studied above. The main innovation in thisthesis includes three aspects below:First, this thesis raises “five factor model” on culture industrycompetition based on current literature and Chinese unique characteristics. The five factors include strength of culture industry, factors of productionof culture industry, the demand elements of culture industry, governments’ supporting of culture industry and the relative industry ofculture industry. In addition, culture industry competition is divided intothree dimensions, which are the production competition of cultureindustry that comprises the strength of culture industry, the latentcompetition of culture industry that comprises factors of production ofculture industry and the demand elements of culture industry, the developenvironment of culture industry that comprises governments’ supportingof culture industry and the relative industry of culture industry. Itprovides a multilevel analysis framework.Second, empirical analysis is carried out based on the newest dataabout culture industry in all the 31 provinces and major cities and the“five factor model”. The five factors on culture industry competition andculture industry competition are ranked in 31 provinces and major citiesrespectively according to the empirical analysis. Further the threedimensions and culture industry competition are divided into three ranksaccording to cluster analysis. These analysis provide a solid foundationfor understanding culture industry competition.Last but not least, the influencing factor of culture industrycompetition is analyzed. Though step wise regression, it has been foundthat urbanization rate, openness, fiscal decentralization and populationhave significant effect on culture industry competition. However, theeffect size is different in different dimensions. Generally, urbanizationrate has a significant effect on both the latent competition of cultureindustry and the environment culture industry competition, but isinsignificant on the production of culture industry. Population has asignificant effect on all of the three dimensions, and has largest effect onthe latent competition of culture industry. Among the three dimensions, fiscal decentralization affects the latent competition of culture industrymost. Economic openness influences the production of culture industrycompetition most among the three dimensions. In addition, we find thatthe area of Yangtze delta has regional advantage in culture industrycompetition. This thesis combines both quantitative analysis and qualitativeanalysis.Quantitative analysis mainly lies in construction of “five factorsmodel” through industry competition theory, factor endowment theoryand other economic theory. Quantitative analysis mainly comprisesprincipal component analysis, cluster analysis for culture industry;stepwise regression about which influence factor. In addition, comparativeanalysis and case study also are applied to study culture industrycompetition.
