Since the 80 s of last century, a considerable number of contemporary literary works(more than 230) adapted into a movie and be successful, relevant research should be taken seriously. The current study ignored the central part, which center on the directors’ adaptions, this paper will focus on this.The paper thought about several related issues: from literature to the film, as the junction point what kind of role the directors were playing? As the main body acceptance and interpretation, what factors play a role subjectively? what objective factors influence the directors and to what extent ? How to evaluate the director’s adaptation?Different from the general adaptation studies, this paper focuses on the special occupational group of film director who is the core of film making.And the process from literature to the film is considered a complex reading and explaining process. In theoretical methods, mainly from Western literary hermeneutics, aesthetics,reader-response criticism, cognitive psychology and other related theories. As a guide,we examine the director of contemporary fiction generally accepted interpretation from four aspects, ideas, film art, personality style, market awareness. As a "pre-understanding" of ideas, the Xie Jin its positive understanding of the mainstream ideology choose fiction, emotional way with moral and political interpretation of these works; Xie Fei Idealism and enlightenment consciousness affect his choice of texts and cognition, its ideas are sometimes unavoidable conflict with the ideological content of the novel; Huang Jianzhong has a strong theoretical consciousness, which would deepen his understanding of the work, but there are "irrelevant" phenomenon.Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, Huo Jianqi considerable attention in the adaptation of film art. Zhang Yimou’s novels can be found for different creative images of different art forms; Chen Kaige pursue fable depth images, sometimes inevitably difficult and obscure; Huo Jianqi accustomed to show his sad story in the selected image poetic aesthetic. Jiang Wen’s emphasis on performance, Huang Jianxin focus on urban life with absurd color, Zhang Yuan select text rebellious edge, and that several of the director’s own personal style led the adaptation process. Feng, Xia Gang, Teng Wenji factors were more likely to consider the audience, but the performance is different.In this study gives us an opportunity to examine in depth two different spiritual world, a movie director, a literary author. Study the potential relationship between the two of dialogue is a challenge, but also a temptation. In this paper, a case study based,selected Xie Jin, Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige and other twelve samples, trying to further explore the rich and unique to each individual "reading" experience. "There are a thousand Hamlet with a thousand readers ", we asked what factors affect theacceptance and interpretation of the director? The study founds that subjective factors,including the director’s upbringing, educational background, professional experience,temperament and personality factors associated with these values, concept of art and literature, and so on; objective factors, including age environment, survival system,market factors, the audience interesting and so on. These factors are often intricately intertwined, requires careful discrimination. We also evaluate this deeply discrimination depending on the humanistic standpoint.
