This paper,with a focus on the five adapted films of Xie Fei,namely Our Farmland,Married to a Child,Black Snow,Woman Sesame Oil Maker,A Mongolian Tale,Song of Tibet,by means of the analysis with respect to their motifs,narrative modes,visual and audio expressions,etc.,reveals the director's characteristics and methods concerning adaptation and creation.Finally,the significant section that may be beneficial to the film and television creation is extracted,for the purpose of providing the adaptation of China's current film and television industry with referential suggestions.Xie Fei,as well as the historical conditions,aesthetic ideology,and the process of indite evolution of the fourth generation director of China,accustomed to using the audio-visual language that was highly experimental in nature,that is,to combine the time and space intertwining narrative style and exquisite long lens with the stories mirroring the features of the age,which made the film get rid of control of political consciousness at that time,and established its position in the people's cultural life of the new China.Their later creation was increasingly characterized by realism.Xie Fei,as one of the best directors,had formed a style of his own,that is,highly poetic realistic creation,among directors of the fourth generation.Although most of his pieces are adapted from fictions,they are rather faithful to the original works,and most of fictions chosen for adaption are of realistic genre.Meanwhile,it can be seen from his adjustment of roles and plots in the process of adaptation that he has unique insight typical of film directors.From the form of the film,he is good at using the fixed techniques including smooth lens movement,scenery shot,music melody and narrative segmentation and thereby forms his own style with rich artistic conception and characteristic of poetic film.Such consistency between the film's ideological theme and shooting method also makes him qualified for being a film author.Finally suggestions are put forward for the reference of film adaptation concerning several literary genres based on the experience and means of Xie Fei with respect to his literature adaptation and artistic ideas.Serious literature shall select texts with fitting length and fitting content as adaptation prototypes,fully understand the original thoughts,and integrate with the contemporary ideology in terms of shooting techniques;popular literature has a natural corresponding relation with commercial films,thus the smoothness of movie and the excellence of story shall be prioritized,the drawing of the audience's attention shall to some extent be achieved by means of spectacularization,and the indistinct classification caused by the excess of director's self-expression shall be avoided.Internet literature,on account of reasons such as its propagation and media,shall pay attention to screen out works of high artistic value during adaptation and make sure the adaptation is public-oriented instead of fan-oriented or merely seeking publicity.
