A Study On The Coupling Of Regional Cultural Resources And Tourism Economy

Culture is one of the key elements and crucial impetus for regional tourist development. With the current cultural development and increasingly close integration of culture and tourism, the theoretical research on tourism is now facing such important issues as how to make effective use of regional culture resources to promote the sustainable development of regional tourism industry, and then how to conduct the protection and inheritance of regional culture resources for the development and prosperity of cultural industry, in order to achieve the coupling and interaction between the regional culture and tourism economy. All these practical issues desiderate urgent solution in the regional tourism and the practical development of cultural industry. This dissertation, taking Jiangsu province as an example, based on the evaluation and analysis of the disparity between the opulence of regional culture resources and the development of tourist economy, aims to measure the coupling degree of regional culture resources and tourism economy, explore its coupling characteristics and mechanism, and put forward its coordinated development mode, so as to provide theoretical support and practical guidance for the development of regional culture and tourism.This dissertation, on the basis of relative researches home and abroad, following the research route of "element measure-space comparison-mechanism analysis-mode building", coupled with the introduction of the physics concept "coupling", intends to do a systematical study on the current situation, mechanism and development mode of the coupling of regional culture resources and tourism economy in Jiangsu province. It consists of five parts. The first part is basic analysis, including Chapter One and Chapter Two. It mainly states the background, objective, significance, method, content and frame of the research, makes a summary of the studies already done home and abroad, and combs relevant theoretical basis. The second part is elements measure analysis, including Chapter Three and Chapter Four. Through the construction of evaluation index system for the opulence of regional culture resources, it conducts a quantitative measure the opulence degree of regional culture resources among13cities in Jiangsu province. Meanwhile, it carries out the measure analysis of tourism economic development and space diversity in these districts. The third part mainly consists of Chapter Five, which is on the characteristic and mechanism analysis. With the help of the coupling evaluation model of regional culture resources and tourism economy, it makes a quantitative assessment of the coordinated coupling characteristics of regional culture resources and tourism economy among the13cities in Jiangsu province. It also goes deep into the analysis of the four cities like Suzhou, Changzhou, Xuzhou, Yancheng as typical coupling cases, which helps to conclude and refine the coupling mechanism of regional culture resources and tourism economy. The forth part is Chapter six, focusing on mode analysis. On the basis of analyzing the coupling mechanism of regional culture and tourism economy, it explores the coordinated development mode of regional culture and tourism economy in the three aspects of cultural tourism products, industry convergence and spatial conformity of culture and tourism, which helps to put forth the major countermeasures for the coordinated development of regional culture and tourism economy in Jiangsu province. Chapter Seven is analytical conclusion, constituting the Fifth part of the dissertation. In the summary of research conclusions, it presents principal innovations as well as existing problems of the dissertation, indicating an outlook for further researches.With comprehensive exertion of multi-disciplinary theories and methods of tourist geography, cultural geography and industrial economics, etc, the dissertation attaches importance to quantitative analysis for the revealing of phenomena and principles, probing into the mechanism beneath phenomena with qualitative analysis methods such as induction and deduction. The major research conclusions obtained are as follows:1) Cultural resources in Jiangsu Province are generally in aggregated distribution. Cultural resources distributed in southwest are more than eastern and northern. On the city scale, cultural resources mostly gathered around the downtown area and the surrounding area distribution less. Cultural resources of Nanjing and Suzhou city is the most densely distributed, while smaller distribution density of Suqian, Yancheng, Taizhou City.2) Through the construction of evaluation index system for the opulence of regional culture resources from the perspective of tourism development, the quantitative measure of the opulence degree of regional culture resources among13cities in Jiangsu province has indicated the obvious spatial diversity of regional culture resources, which can generally be divided into four grades;3) There is distinct disparity in the development level of tourism economy in13cities of Jiangsu province. Since1998, the absolute disparity in terms of tourism economy scale has been gradually expanding while the relative disparity has been decreasing to some extent in recent years. Since1998, the rank order of regional tourism economy in Jiangsu province has gone through little variation in the whole.4) The overall coupling of regional culture resources and tourism economy in various regions of Jiangsu province has reached a higher level, which confirms the nonexistence of resource curse phenomenon in economics. However, there is still evident differentiation in the coordination level of the coupling of regional culture resources and tourist economy, and also distinct disparity in relative priority for tourism development. With regard to the opulence of regional culture resources, tourism development in Wuxi and Changzhou is comparatively advanced, Yangzhou, Suqian, Xuzhou is lagging behind.5) The coupling mechanism of regional culture resources and tourism economy consists of both internal operation and external drive mechanisms. Tourist market, the level of economic development and the government leading strength constitute the major external driving forces for the development of the coupling of region culture resources and tourism economy.The principal innovations of this dissertation can find full expression in the following aspects:1) It establishes the evaluation index system for the opulence of regional culture resources from the perspective of tourist development, which promotes the diversion of regional culture researches from traditional descriptive studies to quantitative analysis;2) It constructs the coupling evaluation model of regional culture resources and tourism economy. With empirical studies in Jiangsu province, it abstracts the coupling mechanism of regional culture resources and tourism economy, and enriches the theories and methods for studying regional culture and tourism.3) It raises the effective mode for coordinated development of regional culture and tourism economy, in which it bears certain instructional significance.
