Most of time for teaching of design discipline is used for design practice of students. Teaching is realized via courses, courses are operating via subjects, teachers impart knowledge by guiding subjects, and students master knowledge via exercise practice; therefore subject operations become the key of teaching. Through subject design, the subject operation contains specialized knowledge of courses, including professional theory, resources, techniques, steps, media, and principles of form; the purpose of teaching can be realized therefrom. A subject focuses on the problem how to teach, including definition for main ideas of course, realized steps and methods, how to acquire resources, solving method and way of problem, and technical support. It is also the important integral part of teaching.By collecting hundreds of typical subject cases at home and abroad, in line with the teaching, and by integrating with teaching experience, the ways and pathways of subject design were researched, and the following viewpoints were proposed in the paper, namely 1. Subject should be rich in enlightenment, creativity and humanistic color, have research value, review the world with wider vision, respect individual difference, train the ability of thinking independently, and make objective judgment and affective design. 2. By designing subject with wider resources as the background, teachers should find rational and valuable internal elements upon their diversified thinking, value judgment and design experience, and match with the structure of the learned knowledge to form subject. 3. Measure homework with the diversified values, solve problems from objective viewpoint; inertial thinking may easily make people be trapped in single view of value and orientation, however experiment, crossover and learning the problem-solving manner under different cultures and disciplines can make people own wider viewpoint and bring more possibility to problem unscrambling. 4. Guide teaches with the attitude of research and in the direction of experiment, let and keep frontier, vivid, scientific and systematic subjects.
