The thought of serving the people is an important part of Mao Zedong’s thought. It is the essence of Chinese communists’ spirit of New Democratic Revolution. The thought of serving the people epitomizes Mao Zedong’s great personality and moral spirit throughout Mao Zedong’s entire revolutionary career. The thought is the purpose and value orientation of the Communist Party of China. Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people originated from the Chinese excellent traditional culture, and it has intrinsic link with the philosophy of Marxism,especially with Marx’s thought that the superstructure serves as a foundation for the economy, and with Marx’s historical, practice,class view. It also has its own characteristics after combining with the specific practice of the Chinese revolution. This thought has become a new kind of political philosophy, moral philosophy and value philosophy.Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people is rich in content, and its formation process is the same as the revolutionary activities of the Chinese Communist Party, which is very complicated. Studying the forming process of the thought is necessary for finding the real ideological origins, as well as the development of the thought. According to classical texts, historical events and historical conditions, This paper deeply researched the forming process and the philosophical connotation of Mao Zedong’s idea of serving the people, striving to accurately reflect the whole forming process,theoretical origins and the philosophical connotation of the thought of serving the people. We should strengthen the rational and scientific nature of Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people which is the ruling aim of the Communist Party of China, further highlight the historical status of Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people, and enhance the people’s service ideology as the Communist Party’s moral standards,to reflect its value of the times.Throughout the paper, it consists of introduction, six main chapters, and the conclusion parts. The introduction part describes the reason why the author choose to research this topic, the previous research progress, the research methods, the main content and innovations. The first five chapters of the paper expounds the germination, rudiment, formation, maturation and development process of the thought of serving the people. The sixth chapter analysis the philosophic connotation of the idea of serving the people. The conclusion of this study is summarized by the last part of the paper.The abstract of the paper is summarized below:Chapter One: Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people originated in the youth. Mao Zedong was born in the decline and transitional period of Chinese feudal society. Mao Zedong was gradually generating the thought of requiring independent and equal personal interests for all laboring people under the influence of his family environment and the dark society. Mao Zedong put his emotion of sympathy for the toiling masses into the practice during the period of the May 4th movement. The binding of practice and understanding lay solid foundation for the formation of the thought.Chapter Two: Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people has shaped up initially in the period of founding the party and the big revolution. Mao Zedong’s idea of serving the people was gradually forming with the Chinese revolution. Mao Zedong leaded and organized a number of activities for the benefit of the people during the stage of founding the party. The theory of serving the people was gradually improved during the big revolution. The thought was revealed in his articles and gradually becoming an important part of the theory of the proletarian outlook on life.Chapter Three :Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people has fully formed in the period of Agrarian Revolutionary War. With the shift of the center of revolution and the establishment of the revolutionary regime, Mao Zedong formed a complete theory of serving the people. In Jinggangshan revolutionary struggle period, Mao Zedong led various forms of combats for gaining profit for farmers. With the regime construction in the Central Soviet Area, the thought to serving the people was gradually established as the main purpose of the Communist revolution. Mao Zedong’s idea of serving the people and the spirit of the long march reached a high degree of unity during the long march period.Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people was fully formed in the difficult process of the revolutionary practice.Chapter Four : Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people came to mature in the period of the Anti Japanese War and the Liberation War. Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people gradually become mature during this period.The Anti Japanese War and the Liberation War put forward many major issues for the Chinese Communist Party. Mao Zedong comprehensively constructed the system of the theory of serving the people under the special historical background. In 1945, "serving the people" was formally wrote into the party constitution on the Seventh National Congress of the CCP. This thought was defined as the scientific theory for guiding the Chinese revolution.The theory of serving the people wholeheartedly became the main purpose of the Communist part.Chapter Five: Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people further developed after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.After the founding of new China, Mao Zedong’s thought of for serving the people continued to develop in the great wave of socialist construction. Mao Zedong actively carried out practice for the benefit of the people, enrich and develop the theory of serving the people. At the same time, we can not deny the ideological nature of serving the people when the deviation of the thought appeared in practice.We should think about the reasons of the failure,absorb the positive factors and carry forward the essence of the thought of serving the people under the new historical conditions.Chapter Six: Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people has rich philosophical connotation. Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people absorbed the positive ingredients of Chinese outstanding traditional culture, like loving the people, paying attention to the people and so on. The thought inherited and overstepped Chinese excellent traditional culture. The idea of serving for the people established on the basis of Marxist philosophy. It was intrinsically linked with Marx’s practice,history and class view. The idea of serving the people is a new political philosophy, a new moral philosophy and a new value philosophy.Mao Zedong’s thought of serving the people has strong vitality. It is the guidance of the Communist Party of China which led the Chinese people overthrew the three big mountains of imperialism, feudalism and bureaucrat capitalism as the ideological weapon and the fundamental driving force.This thought is the guidance of the Communist Party of China to build socialism.It is the starting point and the foothold for the work of the communists. It is also the basic qualities every Communist must possess. In the new historical period, we should further promote Mao Zedong’s noble moral spirit,continue to learn the theory of serving the people, strengthen ideals and faiths, strive to establish the party for the public and run the power for the people.
