Energy is the essential foundation to the survival and development of the human society. With the technological improvement and the alternation of energy resources, the human civilization has made great strides in its development. Within the interaction among human, nature and society, low-carbon economy characterized by low energy-consumption, low carbon-emission and low pollution becomes the main trend of world economy development. The reviews of both domestic and abroad literatures related to low-carbon economy and renewable energy show that little systematic research has been done in China concerning industrialization pattern of non-hydro renewable energy based on low-carbon economy. Undoubtedly, such research has significant theoretical value.Based on the theories of low-carbon economy, energy economics, industrial economics, institutional economics and theory of technological innovation, this study employs the examples of wind power generation, photovoltaic power generation and biomass power generation for their important influence on China’s energy structure and potential commercialization prospect and thereby derived from them the overall framework of the industry model of non-hydro renewable energy in China and its development strategies with qualitative and quantitative studies.Firstly, this dissertation points out that severe environmental pollution and carbon emission are resulted from the energy consumption structure dominated by coal-fired power generation and the development of renewable energy is an effective path to achieve low-carbon economy and to allow sustainable development. This study then introduces the status of the international non-hydro renewables generation industry and the existing policies on financial and tax benefits and investment incentives as advanced experience and reference for China’s non-hydro renewable energy industry. It also describes the condition of non-hydro renewable energy generation industry in China and identifies the problems in its development process. Based on the Porter Competitive Model Structure, it analyzes the competitiveness of non-hydro renewable energy generation industry in four key influential factors—power generation plants, resources, entrepreneurial capabilities and policies.Last but not least, this dissertation presents the strategic direction of the development priority of non-hydro renewable energy. Based on the prediction of the cost and the development trend of wind power generation, photovoltaic power generation and biomass power generation, it puts forward a strategic vision of the development models, paths and policies of the renewables generation industry.
