Study on structure, characteristics and performance of bay scallop industry in China isone of the key tasks of the “National Shellfish Industry Technology Research System”during the “Twelve-Five Planning”. This study includes the past and presidentsituation, the structures, the status of the industrial organization, the patterns ofindustrial correlation and the performances of bay industry on the industrial level, aswell as behaviors and relationships between input and output, etc. on the enterpriselevel. By the different description and analysis on the industry, it tries to find theproblems and challenges, to show the future development trend, to providesuggestions or recommendations to government departments, enterprises and otherstakeholders.Through web searching, on-the-spot investigating, interviewing relative departmentsand organizations, consulting professionals and so on, this paper has obtainedessential data and information. Therefore, the paper holds a position that above questionsshould be settled in three approaches, they are (a) conversion in development mode,(b) innovation in management, and (c) acceleration in technology.
