Premier Li Keqiang has been advocating the idea of “mass entrepreneurship and innovation.” It has been proved that entrepreneurship can not only encourage an individual to start a business and fulfill personal aspirations, but also through collective efforts enhance a nation’s economic growth, employment, and technological innovation. However, empirical studies have found that only a very small proportion of start-up companies succeeded eventually; in China, the proportion is even smaller—the failure rate is 1.8 times higher than the average. How did these entrepreneurs succeed in creating and developing their businesses? What psychological and physiological traits do they have and do these traits affect the operations of their companies? These are the issues that this dissertation intends to explore. The purposes of this research are as follows:(1) analyzing whether the psychological and physiological traits of entrepreneurs are closely correlated to the success of their businesses;(2) analyzing whether the influences of psychological and physiological factors are varied in different age groups during the process of creating businesses;(3)exploring other key elements that may affect an individual’s entrepreneurial process. This research intends to add some creative and empirical evidences to the study of entrepreneurial ventures, and provide practical assistances to those who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs.Based on the hypotheses, this research explores the operations of Taiwan-based companies in both Mainland and Taiwan areas. The questionnaires are divided into two types: the written surveys and the online surveys. A total of 255 valid questionnaires have been collected, encoded, and analyzed. The contents of the questionnaires have been analyzed by using the SPSS statistical package; the key elements analyzed include frequency distribution, T test, one-way analysis of variance, and regression analysis. After an empirical analysis, this research has the following findings:(1)The ages of entrepreneurs negatively affect their entrepreneurial motivations;(2)the ages of entrepreneurs positively affect their job pressures;(3)the levels of entrepreneurial motivations negatively affect job pressures;(4)entrepreneurial motivation is an intervening variable which affects the age-job pressure correlations among entrepreneurs;(5)the levels of work stress affect the mental health of entrepreneurs negatively;(6)the levels of work stress negatively affect the physiological health of entrepreneurs;(7)the levels of work stress negatively affect the effectiveness of entrepreneurship. Furthermore, this study also provides evidences for some incorrect hypotheses: external environments and opportunities are key entrepreneurial elements; external environments are more influential than individuals’ psychological and physiological factors in entrepreneurial effectiveness.
