Sericin(Ser) is the most waste in producing fabrics and is a valuable materials protein resource .Studies have proved that Ser can be used for making polymer gel, membrane, foam, fibre and many other materials.In this dissertation, the new method of preparing Ser, the usage of Ser and its hydrolyzed product-Ser peptide for haircare, and the preparation and properties of degradable graft polymer of Ser-g-PVAc and polystyrene-Ser blend have been described.To get Ser effectively, we have studied and found that about 75% Ser can be obtained by degumming Ser from silk fabrics at higher temperature (125~130#) in 60~90min, then freezing the dissolved Ser aqueous solution. This method is better than general physical or chemical method and shows no damage on the silk fabrics.Ser and its hydrolyzed product-Ser peptide have been studied for the usage in haircare or hair protection. After treating with Ser or Ser peptide, the elasticity, conductivity, moisture-retaining of the hair have been rasied. All the results show that Ser especially Ser peptide of certain molecular weight are good hair protecting agent. The reson of hair protection is also discussed.Graft copolymer of Ser-g-PVAc and polymer blend of polystyrene and Ser have been prepared. Their properties including molecular weight, mechanical properties, thermostability and biodegradability have been studied.Graft copolymer of Ser-g-PVAc and polymer blend of polystyrene and Ser have better mechanical and biodegradable properties than homopolymers of PVAc and polystyrene.
