Hainan province lies in the most southern part of China which is the only province situated in the tropical monsoon area in China. This tropical island enjoys sunshine and warm weather all year round. Therefore it is known as "An Island with No Winter". Because of the special geographical location and regional environment, Hainan has the most virgin natural ecological environment for a long time.In the early 1930's, Hainan began to develop its low level and open industry. The economy developed at a rapid pace, but simultaneously did great harm and damage to the natural environment. According to statistics and reports, Hainan enjoyed 49.2 % forest coverage when China was founded in 1949. This figure reduced dramatically to a mere 22.3% in 1988, as a result of deforestation and economical development. Prior to 1988, nature conservation and environmental protection was non existent. Hainan only started improving its poor ecological environmental condition after 1988. In Brief, Hainan is still degenerating its natural resources, as a result of pollution and deforestation. The imbalance of the natural environment is never ending, as a result of economical development. In order to avoid further harm to this natural oasis and tropical island, we should rather avoid the old motto "pollution first and control later" to a more advanced method of "Prevention is better than cure". Hainan should be guided by a proper system of sustainable development and accurate scientific research.Based on this recognition and urgent need for new development systems, this essay focuses on the issue of "Head for the Modernized Ecology". The aim is to give a systematic and clear explanation on methods to develop, introduce, and implement modernized ecological methods. This essay also reflects the past history of its development. This essay consists of a synopsis, preface, conclusion, annotations, references, specific data, and 8 descriptive chapters. The introduction covers the current results of the research, and existing research problems that need to be dealt with. This all leads to one very crucial point, that is, the negative influences on the ecological environment, as a result of developing the modern economy. The first chapter is a brief introduction of the general condition of Hainan, and a comprehensive review of Hainan's past economical development. Chapter 2 reflects the occurrences during the course of Hainan's development, as well as the awareness for a more modern economic development system. This is done by an analysis of the development level on Hainan's modernized economy. Chapter 3-6 discuss in detail the four modern industries-agriculture, modernized manufacturing and processing industry, marine industry and ecotourism industry individually. The analysis covers the various industries superiority, characteristics, development, the current status and brand forming. These industries are also compared to other domestic levels. Chapter 7 is a description of the background, situation, current development status and eco-modernization disparity of Hainan's information technology industry. Various sections indicate and introduce the development strategy, development superiority, and the supporting measures of Hainan's ecological intelligence construction. Chapter 8 is based on an analysis and a study of the above chapters. This chapter indicates ways and means to achieve this ever so important goal-"Building a healthy ecological island". The emphasis, is to analyze the domestic and international background of Hainan's modernized ecological system and own strategic plan. Four plans to achieve this goal are outlined, that is, focusing on the environmental control aspect, choice of industry, living environment and environmental protection. We thrive to be the first province to achieve modernized ecology in China. This essay combines the reality of Hainan, based on existing research, first hand data, government reports and government documents, monographs, newspaper and magazine report. Many issues and facts are compared to the historic situation in Hainan, in order to identify crucial elements locally or internationally to eventually achieve a workable plan for Hainan. The objective of this thesis is to create awareness of the current condition and to gain a specific workable plan to eventually achieve a smooth and successful system for the development of Hainan's economy without further destruction of the tropical environment.
