The Research Of Architectural Programming For Public Sports Facilities

Due to the complexity, massiveness, problems in construction and operation, and insufficiency of programming in practice of public sports buildings, research on the sports building programming, which as an important step in the scientific construction process of sports facilities, is of high value and in pressing need.Research showed that the significance of architectural programming for sports building is it makes an important component and necessary procedure of scientific decision-making. It balances all the factors and values to lay a solid foundation for Post-Game Operation and set key requirements for architecture design. For convenience, the work of programming can be divided into to four main aspects: positioning and size, function and space, investment and operation, environment and technology. This framework is more practical than those given by all other literatures in its close relationship with the results and basic contents of programming, resulting in adaptability to pilot studies of projects and convenience of application.Positioning & Size is the point of penetration of programming as well as the important foundation of the subsequent works. The basis of Positioning & size determine lies in value excavation, and trends and requirement analysis. The process of Positioning can be outlined as: the requirement and trend research and the potential value exploring?the principals of the programming-? positioning. The procedures of Size determination are as the following: positioning-?competition area ?seats?whole area of the building?cost.The function and space planning can begin with two different frameworks of of large or medium scaled buildings. Function planning should be flexible for potential of complicated requirements and changeable condition. This dissertation proposed a functional planning diagram to adapt to this potential, and obtained empirical data of parameters such as areas for seating and indoor traffic by statistical investigation and analysis, for the drawing up the size of every room, which is the important part of function planning. The strategies for out-door space planning and building image planning are also discussed in the paper.In general, there are two investment modes of Public sports building, i.e., government or project financing, and two operation modes, the public institution and corporatization. The case studies of Guangzhou new gymnasium and Shanghai sports center revealed that corporatization (clearly-established ownership is unnecessary) is an excellent way for sports building's running. The key point is the modern enterprise management system, especially the salary system. The practice indicated that a particular method should be chosen for the cost estimation in programming phase of sports building, where subunit of the project and subentries of installation engineering are calculated. By analyzing 100 public sports buildings in recent 10 years, the dissertation brought forward the average investments per square meter and per seat for the high, middle and low levels. By sufficient survey, the dissertation presented a relatively integrated list of financial income and expenditure. Empirical values of many single accounts and two examples of financial analysis are also provided.The Environment & Technology factor is the supportive qualifications for the successful implement of the project. The research on this factor includes three aspects: site selection, Engineering Technology plan, Energy and Environment. The dissertation presented an appraisal system for multiple target sites selection. The programming technique of engineering technology plan and energy and environment were also discussed.The dissertation considered that to promote development of the city is the core value principal which should be throughout the process of architectural programming of sports buildings. Public sports building could be an important driving force of city development, if some conditions are satisfied which include: multi-function, cooperation with other commercial facilities, policy supports and good operation performance. The substantial cause that the public sports facilities promoting the city development is that it satisfies the basic need of people's physical exercises and watching games. Public sports buildings enhance a city's attractive force and competitive power in 3 ways: economical, cultural and social, and thus finally drive the city or certain urban area into a growing trend. The best approach is to make the sports buildings as a part of the development of the whole city, and the service industry to accumulate. Sacramento King's new arena and the Railyard project comprehensive showed how the public sports buildings promoted the old city zone's redevelopment by a complex development plan and by the SED's agglomeration.The athletic sports development, the reform of Sports Administration System, the scientific-technical progress, the socioeconomic development, the life style modification and Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection, these five aspects are main affective elements of the future trends of the sports building in our country, the trends including:Specialization while professionalization of the sports buildings;Synchronous growing of sports facilities of competition and entertainment;Comfort, security, energy-saving, and environment-protecting become the main factors in technology choice.The strategy of programming of sports buildings is combining the project's practical needs and keeping up with or ahead of the trends of deployment in positioning, functional plan and technical properties, to achieve foresight and sustainability of the buildings.
