Ritual architecture(祠庙建筑),dedicated to ancestors or the heroes and heroines of anation.is an important type of ancient architecture.They are in the numerousquantities.widely distributed.varied.and broadly involved in civil society.Meanwhile,as the public space of settlement,the buildings have shaped the particularbeliefs and cultural landscape of civil society through the faith—related activitieshappened there.However,this type of architecture with great value has not beentreated with due seriousness.Research on the basic law of its architectural form is stilla blank.In addition.previous studies ignored the interaction relationship between thearchitecture and the folk activities.The characters of the architecture space and thephilosophy of the design have still not been revealed.So based on local chronicles.ancient inscriptions and fieldwork methods 0f folklore.this dissertation studies theritual architecture in civil society and tries to reveal the law of its architecturemorphology,the basic function and characters of the architecture space bycomprehensive using the theories and results 0f related disciplines such as humanbehavior,anthropology,sociology,religion science,operatic art and so on,in order tofurther understand the ritual architecture and its design theory.This dissertation is divided into the following 1evels:First.depending on 1iteraturematerials,explaining the relationship between the ritual architecture and folk religion.revealing the connection between the ritual architecture and civillire.particularly theclose link with public lire:Second,through the ancient Chinese conception of ritualarchitecture,comparing the Buddhist,Taoist and other building types,combining thefundamental characteristics 0f folk religion system and its analysis.indicating the typeof ritual architecture characteristics:Third.on this basis.combined with 1iteratureanalysis,summarizing some forill of ritual architecture;Forth,around the commonfolk drama for worship to illustrate the jnherent drama associated with the Ritualactivity and interaction.from the ritual function of drama activities.analyzes thedesign philosophy with the music and the diversity of building shapes attributed to thestage space requirements for the function of the contradictions and ceremonialactivities and folk activities 0f cOntradictiOns.dif-ferent times.difierent region—specificsocial environment determines the stage of construction of the shape selection;Fifth.discussing the relationship between folk activities and space by field observations todepict the socialization and entertainment features 0f ritual architecture;Sixth.in themode of harmonious consistent between ritual and music.describing the space featureof ritual architecture.summarizing the philosophy such as the golden mean andhumanism reflects in ritual architecture....
