The asphalt pavement quality of high-grade highway depends more and more on the performance of the paver used. In order to improve the paving quality and the surfacing evenness, based on the interaction of hot asphalt mixture and screed plate of the paver, the mixture pressure tests are done, and the rheological properties are discussed and analyzed, the kinematics and dynamics models for the floating screed equipment are deduced. Through the experiments, the models are proved to be correct, and which will be the theoretical basis for the further study. Besides, a digital controller for the auto leveling system is presented, which is composed of high speed on-off valve and PLC, the basic structure is given, three controlling programs which are based on the three experimental schemes, i.e. ordinary on-off valve scheme, high speed on-off valve scheme and subsection control scheme are drawn up, the control method are PWM and PFM, and the performances tests are done in laboratory, the digital controller has higher performances.
