Research On The Compositive Principle Of Chinese Medicine Formula

The formula principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine prescriptions are some regular and exemplary theoretical methods that extracted and sublimated from numerous formula patterns, which exhibit an important and instructive role in TCM formula compositions. Because of different cognitive angles of physicians in history about existed formulas and original formulas, the acknowledgements of TCM formula principles are various, and certain academic disputes always exist in this research field. Besides, the research interests of TCM formula principles are ever-ascending in recent academia, however, a better and more practical theory about formula composition have not yet appeared. Considering that, based on the classification and study of traditional formula composition method, we proposed and established a formula pattern better accord with clinical needs, which inherit the essence of TCM formula theories, promote the development of formula composition theories, and has an important realistic meaning and profound historic significance.In this research, dissertations and applications related to formula principles in classical medicine books of TCM were selected as research objects. Started from the headstreams of formula composition theories, connotations, origins and developments, and characteristics of formula principles were explained and analyzed comprehensively. Based on above, a full-scale and more practical theory/pattern in formula composition was proposed, which have been discussed and analyzed in both theoretical and practical sides. Research results are as follows:1. Traditional formula principles mostly include assistant and guide rules, drug properties rules and integrated rules. These three formula composition rules, applied by physicians in history of development of TCM, make a huge contribution to illustrate formula composition principles and to guide clinical formula applications.2. Compared drug properties rules to assistant and guide rules, each have its advantages and disadvantages. Though angles of studying the law of compatibility in formulas are different, they can be complementary in a certain extent. Although integrated rules have been used by physicians in history to develop lots of formulas, so far its connotations and essences were not illustrated clearly, which limited its further application and promotion.3. The proposition of'drug potency critical formulation'further enrich and perfect the assistant and guide rules, calm theoretical arguments about formula composition theories, and establish an academic base of formula pattern as'multidimensional integration and rules leading composition'.4. Formula pattern as'multidimensional integration and rules leading composition'and its corresponding multidimensional system of formula composition principles are refined and more pragmatic compared to traditional formula composition principles in the side of theoretical explanation and guiding innovation, which deserve further popularization and application.
