The hysteromyoma is the most common benign tumor in the female reproductivesystem. Abnormal menstrual bleeding (which includes prolonged period, hypermenorrhea, and polymenorrhea) is the most predominant symptom ofhysteromyoma, about 1/3 of hysteromyoma patients has such complaints. Severeabnormal menstrual bleeding can cause secondary anemia which directly endangers thepatient's life. After integrating her clinical experiences with her unique understanding of the TCMtheories, my instructor, Professor Xiao Chengzong, pointed out that the deficiency of qiand blood stasis is one of the major pathogenic mechanisms of hysteromyoma, and isalso a key to its abnormal menstrual bleeding. Deficiency of qi unables it to promoteblood flow, blood stagnates in the uterus, developing into hysteromyoma. Deficiency ofqi also results in a disability to regulate blood, the Chong and Ren channels areuncontrolled, leading to abnormal menstruation. Blood stasis accumulates in the uterus, affecting normal uterine contractions, also resulting in abnormal menstrual bleeding. Moreover, Professor Xiao also pointed out that qi can promote uterine contraction.Deficiency of qi can result in uterine atony, causing hypermenorrhea and prolongedmenstrual period. On this theoretical foundation, Professor Xiao brought forward thetherapeutic method of invigorating qi to induce uterine contraction and removing bloodstasis to stop bleeding. A corresponding drug, the Qi Zhu Hemostatic Granule, isformulated and used in clinic, showing favorable effects. This research observed theclinical effects of the Qi Zhu Hemostatic Granule in treating abnormal menstrualbleeding caused by hysteromyoma, in addition; it also attempts to probe into itsmechanisms. This research observed 60 cases of abnormal menstrual bleeding complaints causedby hysteromyoma. Patients were treated with Qi Zhu Hemostatic Granule for 2consecutive menstrual cycles. All 60 cases were observed for clinical symptoms study.Among the 60 cases, 30 were randomly chosen to undergo laboratory testing, whoselaboratory results before and after the treatment were observed. Results show: ①TheQi Zhu Hemostatic Granule has a total immediate hemostatic effectiveness rate of91.67%; ②The total effectiveness rate of Qi Zhu Hemostatic Granule in improvingmenstrual discomforts is 93.34%, also showing relief of other symptoms to varied extent;英文摘要 3③After treating with the Qi Zhu Hemostatic Granule, 14 anemic cases had increasedhemoglobin content after treatment(P<0.01); ④After treatment with Qi Zhu HemostaticGranule, the serum gastrin level increased (P<0.01); ⑤After treatment with Qi ZhuHemostatic Granule, the peripheral hemocyte parameters MCV, RDW, and MPV lowered(P<0.05); ⑥After treatment with Qi Zhu Hemostatic Granule, the endothelin level inplasma decreased (P<0.01); ⑦After treatment with Qi Zhu Hemostatic Granule, theTXB2 level in plasma decreased (P<0.01) and the T/K ratio normalized (P<0.05);⑧After treatment with Qi Zhu Hemostatic Granule, the estradiol level in serumdecreased (P<0.05). Results indicate that the mechanism of Qi Zhu Hemostatic Granulemay have some relations with increasing blood hemoglobin content, increasing serumgastrin level, improving peripheral hemocyte parameters, decreasing plasma endothelinlevel, regulating the balance between TXA2 and PGI2, and lowering the serum estradiollevel.
