ObjectiveAnkylosing Spondylitis (AS), characterized by chronic inflammation of central axis articulus, is a systemic disease with indefinite causes. AS most commonly affects sacroiliac joints, other organs such as eyes, heart, kidneys are involved as well. AS belongs to "DALV" in traditional Chinese medicine. My tutor has unique thoughts and certain effects on treating AS. It is of great importance to summarize the scientific connotation of my tutor's academic thoughts. There have been seldom epidemiological studies on AS with large clinical by now. This study is to search for the rule and characteristics of symptoms and patterns of AS through a comprehensive analysis and study on cases, which can provide objective evidence for early diagnosis and treatment on AS. Meanwhile, it is to make a preliminary exploration of researching methods on patterns of AS according to traditional Chinese medicine. Multiple regression analysis, cluster analysis are statistical methods, which can classify random phenomenon. It is adaptable for the research of traditional Chinese medicine by using objective mathematical statistics results to judge its objectivity. By observing the change of serum adhesion molecule level of AS patients on active stage, and carrying out correlated analysis with patterns of TCM, we hope to find new pathological factors associated with AS, to reveal pathological and physiological basis of patterns of TCM from the perspective of molecular immunology, and so as to provide new ideas on researching and developing Chinese and Western medicines of AS. MethodsIn this study, cross-sectional study of clinical epidemiology was applied, clinical questionnaire was designed and filled in, and related data were acquired. Database for data management was established with ACCESS, the data were analyzed with SPSS 11.5 and SAS 8.2. To analyze the clinical characteristics of AS on Chinese and Western medicine, measurement data were carried out with descriptive frequency analysis and t test, enumeration data were analyzed with chi-square test, the study of TCM patterns were carried out with Pearson correlation analysis, multiple factors Logistic regression and cluster analysis, etc. Serum sICAM-1 sVACM-1 of AS patients were tested with double antibody sandwich Elissa tests. ResultsGeneral state: 70% patients in this study were from Northern provinces. The average age of AS patients was 29.5, mainly from 16 to 45 years old. These patients made up 87.8% of all.
