The in vivo study showed that 75125mg/kg of epimedium polysaccharides (EPS) augmented phagocytosis of mice macrophage and the in vitro data showed that the optimal concentration for this augmentation was 31250mg/kg. 50125mg of EPS in vivo enhanced lymphocyte blastogenesis of mice, restored the delayed hyper-sensitivity reaction of immunosuppressed mice and the in vitro data showed that the optimal concentration for the enhancement was 125250mg/kg. 50mg/kg of EPS in vivo inhibited solid mice tumor S180 & HepA, and 1,000mg/kg of EPS in vitro had the inhibitory effect only on K562. LD50 of EPS was 2. 3g/kg introperitoneally. Tolerable toxicity was found during phase I clinical trial.
