Chinese traditional medicine is one of the most precious inheritances inChinese and worldwide culture. There is a tremendous international medicinemarket in the world now. However, we share only a small part with other Asiacountries in the market. In addition, most of the exported medicines areextremely limited to raw materials. Obviously, the status is not proportional tothe great status of China. Therefore, "Chinese traditional medicinemodernization" has been paid much attention in the world, especially in China,in recent years.Bupleureum is one of the traditional and important medicines with morethan 2000 years history, which shows effective antipyretic, anti-inflammatoryand analgesic activity. Its decoction has been frequently used in clinicalapplications. However, the decoction also shows some disadvantages. First, itis not easy to carry, save and transport the decoction due to its liquid nature.Second, the bitter taste of bupleureum is difficult to be accepted by sufferers.The above weaknesses of its traditional decoction have strongly impeded apotential application in the world. In addition, the content of its effectivecomponents varies widely with the different sources and different preparationmethods, leading to an unstable effect of its decoction. Therefore, it is valuableto analyze the effective components of bulpleureum by modern pharmacologyand make them into well prepared medicine.Bupleureum soft capsule (BSC), which is prepared by mixing the effectivecomponents (saikosaponin and essential oil) in a proper proportion, can notonly conceal the special fetid odor of essential oil, but also weaken theirritativeness. Compared with bupleureum oral liquid (BOL), BSC can reservemore effective components, improve the efficiency and stability, relay therelease of drug.In this thesis, the pharmacodynamics of BSC has been investigated inantipyretic, diaphoresis, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity.1. BSC can obviously accelerate the perspiration in rat feet. Its effect isbetter than that of BOL.2. BSC can lower the body temperature of feverish rat induced by beeryeast suspension, and of feverish rabbit induced by typhoid andparatyphoid vaccine. Its effect is better than BOL.3. BSC can suppress the swell in rat feet induced by fresh egg white, andthe ear edema induced by xylene. But its effect is weaker than Aspirin.4. BSC can decrease the times of rat twist. But it is less effective thanAspirin. BSC can improve the threshold of pain in hot plate.These results indicate that BSC may be a promising medicine with stronganalgesic activity.
