Purpose: To (a) determine the histologic feature, size , and the stage of nonpalpable breast cancers detected on ultrasound(US); (b)determine the sonographic features of nonpalpable breast cancers detected with US; (c) evaluated the clinical utility of BI-RADS final assessment to breast US by auditing data on breast US; (d)evaluated the clinical usefulness of US for breast cancer detection.Material and methods: Between Jan 1998 and Nov 2003, 295 nonpalpable breast lesions detected on US in 252 asymtomatic women were underwent US-guided localization preoperatively. Each lesion was classified according to BI-RADS final assessment category system (category 2-5). Sonographic features were divided into malignant and benign findings. Malignant findings included taller-than-wide shape, irregular shape, microlobulation, spiculated margin, halo, posterior attenuation, microcalcification, ductal distortion, irregular vessels, hypervascularity, penetrating vessels.
