The Epidemiological Investigation On TCM Body Constitution Classification And Related Research Of Deficiency Of Yang Constitution

Medicine is a special science which researches the pathogeny, pathology, therapy and prevention of the disease. Its object of study are people with different body constitution. The study of body constitution is an important problem for medical staff, while it is a special characteristic of TCM to study people's body constitution in order to help the prevention and therapy of diseases . It is good for enriching theory of pathogeny and pathogenesis of TCM ,also can improve TCM system's innovation by " differentiating syndrome to decide treatment". Body constitution study has become an important part of the basis theories of TCM through continious explanations of various medical specialities in history. Distinguishing the susceptible population, improving body constitution and people's healthy, decreasing incidence of a disease are the highest level of "Prevention treatment" in TCM body constitution study.In TCM,body constitution is a objective life phenomenon, is individual character existing in various nations and individuals which includes morphological structure, physiological function and the psychological state.This individual character results in the susceptibility to certain pathological and diseases and the tendency of the finial result of the diseases. According to the theory of TCM , jing, qi, blood and body fluid are basic matters to form human body and maintain human life. The main reason why different people have differences in morphological structure ,the physiological functions of zang and fu-visceral and senses, is variety of jing, qi, blood and body fluid. So jing, qi, blood, and body fluid can be used as foctors to evaluate the body constitution. Deficiency of yang constitution is a kind state which main characteristics are cold of deficiency type manifestations because of the insufficiency of yang and qi and deficiency of warming the body. The results derived from epidemiological research show that the deficiency of yang constitution is one of the most common body constitutions.So it is worth researching deeply.At present, there are few researches of yang- deficiency constitution both at home and abroad, most of which are only about document arrangement and theory discussion, not about epidemiological research, maybe because there isn't any normative judging criterion. In order to improve the present researching situation and to promote the progress of yang-deficiency, it is the most important thing to make a normative judging criterion of yang -deficiency. According to the researching measures from the project of "The basic theory research of Chinese Medical Constitution which based on the thought of seasonal conditions of an individual" (subject code No:2005CB523501) (973 program)", by means of epidemiological methods ,we explored a Standardized study to achieve judging norms for yang-deficiency constitution on the basis of classifical studies, which provide possible thoughts and methods for the Standardized study oriented to the yang-deficiency constitution. In the same time, we also research the relationships among yang-deficiency constitutions in various areas, gendre and age.The paper includes three parts, which are the documental study of Chinese Medical Constitution, study related to yang- deficiency Constitutio and the epidemiological study in TCM body constitutionThe study of document: through systematic arrangement of documents ,the writer sums concepts, formation, classification and the relations between the syndrome and desease of body constitution in TCM from medical experts nowadays and in the past.The epidemiological study on TCM body constitution classification: through the epidemiological investigation of TCM body constitutions in 2532 people in Jiang su and Qinghai, make the distribution of body constitution in these two areas clear. The result shows that the gentleness type occupies the most part , among which, 29.5% in Jiangsu, 26.6% in Qinghai. But the percentage of pathological constitution in Qinghai is higher than that in Jiangsu, one is 73.64%, another is 70.5%. Yang-deficiency and qi-insufficiency constitution in Jiangsu rank the second and the third; dampness-heat constitution, blood-stasis type, yin-dificiency type rank the fourth, fifth anad sixth; Qi-stagnation constitution, special diathesis constitution rank the seventh,eighth; the phlegm-dampness constitution is the ninth.In Qinghai, yang-deficiency and qi-insufficiency constitution rank the second and the third; yin-dificiency type, blood-stasis type, the phlegm-dampness constitution rank the fourth, the fifth, sixth ; dampness-heat constitution, and Qi-stagnation constitution rank the seventh, the eighth ; special diathesis constitution ranks the ninth.In the view of the type order of body constitution in two areas, yang-deficiency and qi-insufficiency ranks the second and the third respectively; blood-stasis type of both is the fifth. The fourth is yin-dificiency type in Qinghai and dampness-heat constitution in Jiangsu respectively. The sixth is yin-dificiency type in Jiangsu and phlegm-dampness constitution in Qinghai respectively. On the basis of analysis of the order in two areas, we systemtically analysed and compared the exterior factors of forming body constitution in two areas, further confirmed that different climates and environments, eating and living habits and other factors affect and restrict different people's body constitution in different areas.The related research of yang-deficiency constitution: on the basis of the discussion about formation factors , conception and the relation with syndrome of yang-deficiency constitution, it used the means of factor analysis, made systemtical investigation and statistics analysis to 128 common individual character, information of the touge and the pulse, according to the order of factor and the size of factor loading, drew out a judging criterion of yang-deficiency constitution.It used chi-square test to make the research of yang-deficiency constitution in different areas, different age groups , different gendre.the result shows that there is very clear differences between sexes ; The rate of yang-deficiency constitution of female is higher than male. And we also made inquiry into its reason ,which is fit for the recognzation of the different constitution of women and men in TCM, offering theoretical basis of the prevention for disease tendency because of yang-deficiency constitution .All in all, yang-deficiency constitution is a common constitution, which is effected by the congenital, the acquired and other factors. The epidemiological investigation on pathological constitution in this topic, especially the comparatively research of yang-deficiency constitution and its judging criterion ,can offer a helpful train of thought and a way for research of yang-deficiency constitution and other body constitutions.
