Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) took root in the deep and rich soil of the traditional Chinese culture. In order to comprehend the gist of TCM theory,we need widely learn its background culture and digest the essence of profound knowledge. In this manner,we may grasp the special connotation of the classical text,"Huangdi Nei-jing"(Canon of Internal Medicine). The research process was similar to reel the silk thread off cocoons or search for gold in the sand. This thesis was written in three parts. The first part is a chronological summary of ancient physicians' views on "xin zhu shen ming" theory and its clinical application. The purpose is to present how Chinese physicians applied this theory to their clinical practice and gained considerable achievement in the history. In the second part,we combine the viewpoints of Taoist school philosophy to analyze the connotation of "xin zhu shen ming" theory in the classical text,"Huangdi Neijing".An innovative viewpoint,"xin ti yin yong yang" theory is the keystone of "xin zhu shen ming" theory, unfolded by quoting from classical literature of Taoist school.Besides, based on the interpretations of "shen ming" phrase in five dictionaries and a detailed textual analysis of classical literature,a certain logic to the meanings of "shen ming" phrase adopted in "Huangdi Neijing" unfolded. All the significations of "shen ming" phrase in "Huangdi Neijing" carries the meaning of "yin-yang transformation".A new annotation of "xin zhu shen ming",the Chinese Heart dominates all the yin-yang transformation of human life, unfolded reasonably. Moreover, the author chose representative doctrine from Taoist school concerning body and mind as a reference to help comprehend TCM view on human body and mind relationship. Both body and mind are closely related to Qi that is one of the fundamental life materials in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Moreover,Qi contains yin qi and yang qi.Above all,the yin-yang theory is the most basic concept in TCM. The third part discusses that "xin zhu shen ming" theory bears its practical significance in effectively preserving health, preventing diseases and guiding clinical practice.List eighteen common illnesses to illustrate how "xin zhu shen ming" theory instructs clinical practice by quoting storied physicians' viewpoints and analysis of typical cases in modern clinic, inclding poor memory, insomnia, hypersomnia, nightmare, nocturnal emission, somnambulism, insanity, hysteria, epilepsy, depression, zang-zao,bai-he disease, dementia, coma, lingua disorder, abnormal sweat, xi-xiao-zheng and beidie zheng. It is one of the innovative views in this thesis to include depression, lingua disorder, abnormal sweat and beidie zheng in the "xin zhu shen ming" category and that can be a reference for all TCM lovers and clinicians.Ancient Chinese thought greatly influenced Traditional Chinese Medicine. After a long period of practicing,Chinese physicians have established series of treatment principles.Any functional activity of any organ is crucial to the whole life.Any organ disorder may affect the other organs and disturb the harmonious state of the whole body. Thus Chinese physicians usually treat the "peace breaker" for recuperating. But their final goal is to take good care of "xin shen" that is the dominate factor in human life.Gardner Murphy,an American psychologist, had indicated that China was the first home state of the world psychology. In fact, many modern psychologists have realized the limitation of modern psychology which can not solve all the problems well. Facing the fact that psychosomatic diseases are very common in modern society and modern medicine can hardly help,we bear the responsibility of establishing a unique TCM "xin shen" theoretical system to promote the development of psychosomatic medicine and contribute to the human well-being.
