Forsythia suspense(Thunb.) Vahl.is a species of the genus Forsythia of the Oleaceae family,which is widely distributed in Hebei,Shanxi,Gansu,Ningxia,Shan dong,Jiangsu,Henan,Jiangxi and Yuannan Provinces.The fruits of this plant,known as "Lianqiao"(Chinese),have been used as a Chinese traditional medicine.It is reported to have heat-cleating,detoxicating,detumescence and eliminating stagnation activities.The fruits of Forsythia suspense(Thunb.) Vahl is one constituent of Shuanghuanglian for Injection,having more pharmacological and clinical significance.For Shuanghuanglian for Injection basic research laid the second development,and to further improve the fingerprint of Shuanghuanglian for Injection to provide a theoretical basis,we investigated the chemical constituents of the fruits of Forsythia suspense(Thunb.) vahl of Shuanghuanglian for Injection.By using various chromatographic techniques,39 compounds(Table 1 and Figure 1) have been isolated from the fruits of Forsythia suspense(Thunb.) vahl.On the basis of analysis of UV,IR,NMR and MS data and measuring of physico-chemical characters,their structures were elucidated,including ten phenylethanoid glucosides,seven ligans,three allylbenzene glycosides,one iridoid glycoside,two triterpenes,two sterols,two benzyl alcohol glycosides,eight flavonoids and four aromatic acids.Among them,compounds 1~*-3~*,18~*,19~* are new and compounds 7-9,15-17,20,26,27,29-31,33-35,37,38 are isolated from Forsythia genus for the first time.In vitro antibacterial activity test results show that compounds 6 and 9 inhibit Staphylococcus aureus(ATCC 25923),Bacillus cereus(CMCC(B) 63301), monocytogenes Listeria bacteria(ATCC 54004) and Escherichia coli(ATCC 25922).
