Observation Of Effectiveness Comparison Of Diverse Electro-acupuncture Waveform For Treating Simple Obesity

ObjectiveTo observe the effectiveness and safety of electro-acupuncture of rarefaction wave, condensation wave and condensation-rarefaction wave for treatment of simple obesity, and to explore electro-acupuncture of diverse waveform stimuli for influence of obesity indices and clinical effects, moreover to provide with clinical basis for optimizing the proposal to electro-acupuncture for treating simple obesity, the randomized-controlled trial was undertaken.MethodsObjects with simple obesity from Lin Meihui's clinic in Tai Wan were randomized into rarefaction wave group, condensation wave group and condensation-rarefaction wave group. Main points were daimai, zhongwan, tianshu, shuifen, fenglong and coordination points were selected according to Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation of syndrome of deficiency of spleen and dampness stagnation, syndrome of dampness-heat of stomach, syndrome of deficiency of spleen and kidney, syndrome of stagnation of Qi due to depression of the liver, and syndrome of intra-heat due to deficiency of yin. Select electro-acupuncture therapy device of pattern XS-998B manufactured by Xiao Song medical instrument research institute in Nan Jing, and connect 2 couple of wires with corresponding points respectively. Frequency of rarefaction wave group was 2-5HZ, frequency of condensation wave group was 50～100HZ and frequency of condensation-rarefaction wave group was 2～5/50～100HZ by cycling. Remain the needles for 30 minutes. The operation was conducted once everyday and five times each week. Four weeks made a course and totally two continuous course need to be done. Before treatment, for patients in three groups, their clinical symptoms accumulating score, obesity indices(arm circumference, waist circumference, abdomen circumference, hip circumference, thigh circumference, ratio of waist and hip, fat percentage, weight, constitutional index and fat degree) were measured and after treatment, the change of those indices above were all measured again and to make effectiveness evaluation. Additionally, before and after treatment, blood routine, urine routine, electrocardiogram, liver and kidney function were tested to evaluate safety.Resultsin the trial, there were 180 patients with simple obesity were recruited, and patients with syndrome of spleen deficiency and dampness stagnation had the largest number of people and accounting for 53.14%. All cases took part in evaluation of effectiveness and safety.Effectiveness results:①three groups could decrease significantly the total accumulated score of clinical symptoms, while the condensation-rarefaction wave group had better effect than two other groups on difference of pre and post score (P<0.05).②the effective rate for treatment of simple obesity was 61.40% in condensation-rarefaction wave group,59.32% in rarefaction wave group and 57.36% in condensation group. though, the effect in condensation-rarefaction wave group had slight advantage than that in two other groups, but there was not statistic significant (P>0.05).③all groups could obviously decrease the value of weight, BMI and fat degree, and had good loosing fat effect, while the condensation-rarefaction wave group had the best effect (P<0.01).④three wave groups could effectively lower patients'arm circumference, thigh circumference, abdomen circumference, waist circumference, hip circumference and fat percentage, reduce fat content in the body. While for the improvement of arm circumference, condensation-rarefaction wave were far more better (P<0.01).Conclusions1. All three electro-acupuncture waveform groups could significantly decrease total accumulated score of clinical symptoms, while condensation-rarefaction group had better effect than other two waveform groups.2. All three electro-acupuncture waveform groups could significantly lower value of weight, BMI and fat degree, and had good loosing fat effect, while the condensation-rarefaction group was the best.3. All three electro-acupuncture waveform groups could effectively reduce patients'arm circumference, thigh circumference, abdomen circumference, waist circumference, hip circumference and fat percentage; reduce fat content in the body. For improvement of waist circumference and ratio of waist circumference and hip circumference, condensation-rarefaction waveform had the best effect.To sump up, electro-acupuncture for treatment of obesity had reliable recent clinical therapeutic effect and was a beneficial loosing fat method, and the condensation-rarefaction waveform had better effect than rarefaction waveform or condensation waveform.
