Reshaping The Charming Hometown

Based on the thought that public art concern general aesthetic and encourage public participation, from the visual and aesthetic perspectives, this dissertation tends to build a new countryside with a sense of both place and belonging by the way that art can make up the deficiency in constructing visual culture in rural areas, so that art can perform its positive role in promoting farmer's aesthetic consiousness and cultural character.For thousands of years, rural area has been the basic environment for people to survive and live. The traditional environment aesthetics, which pursues the unity of nature and harmony such as"following the rule of nature","oneness of heaven and man", was applied to the construction of gardens, residential houses and villages by the ancient people and created the visual image of agriculture settlement in the farming society. At present, construction of pubic environment in the process of the campaign—"building a new socialist countryside"has become a vital factor that affects social progress. Compared to the urban construction in full swing, rural infrastructure and the environment has become relatively stagnant. On the one hand, in the process of building a new socialist countryside, the traditional concept of community that human, nature and society live in harmony, in some degree, is lost because much consideration are taken into material form while the cultural connotation are ignorned, so that it is difficult to continue the rural context. On the other hand, the influence of modern art is weak in most rural areas and there is still no effective way to improve the construction of public environment in rural areas.Though modern art has often been mentioned, almost all the relative study and practice on public art are centered on urban areas and little on rural visual form. In addtion to its utilitarian function of satisfying resident's daily life demand, perfect rural living environment should function as a spiritual space to arouse resident's artistic spirit. Althought the concept—making the public environment in rural residential area more artistic"is often pictured as Utopian, the introduction and interaction of various artstic forms have, in effect, not only satisfied farmer's thirst for living in an artistic way, but offered an effective approach to build the ideal rural environment in the future, which is aslo the practical significance of this study.From the perspective of pubic art, this dissertation illustrates the importance of creating visual culture in public space in Jiaodong rural residential area. Wih case studies, it explores the experience of creating visual public space in rural residential area. By focusing on the aesthetic components in Jiaodong rural area and being farmer-centered, it discusses how to build an artistic public space in Jiangdong rural area, trying to establish a rural home which can convey the spirit of the times and pay attention to the aesthetic consciousness of villagers.
