| During the modern times of China, along with the process of so-called "Western learning things", modernization came into being, and then great changes came up in the fields of economy and society. The cotton textile industry is one of the representative industries during modern China, particularly "Dasheng " cotton mill in Nantong, which founded by Zhangjian. Nantong realized a dramatic rise depend on the development of the cotton textile industry, and it was regarded as a nationwide model soon. History tells us that select one mode of economic development is not random, but with the comprehensive integration of various elements. On the basis of that, the article discussed the development process of Nantong cotton activities, and structured a integrity of interaction. On the one hand, to seek the depths of boom and slump of Nantong cotton industry, one the other hand, to excavate the influence of development of cotton activities on the economy and society of modern Nantong, and then get the law from it, to provide comprehensive and impersonal reference for today's development of agriculture and countryside. The present paper divides into four sections.The first section discusses the status of the modernization took place in Nantong among Chinese cities, then analyzed the effect of the cotton textile industry on it. Then, dissertation describes the geography location and its historical variance, as well as the process of the evolution of traditional economy in Nantong, bring on the historical style and features of traditional economy and society of Nantong. Discusses the historical basis of the development of modern cotton activities on the basis of the study on the relationship between natural conditions and cotton-growing. On the basis of that, bring on the background of the development of modern cotton textile industry (the first chapter of the thesis).The second section expounded the process of the development of modern cotton textile industry in Nantong, mainly includes three chapters.First, the dissertation discusses the influence of the development of the modern machinery industry on the development of the cotton textile industry. Spins by machine gives rise to productiveness, accordingly, the need for the output of cotton increases, as well as the quality of cotton. It is difficult to realize to depend on the traditional family smallholder farming production. The thesis makes a contrastive analysis between the two points, present that the two are not contrary, but from a different angle. In other words, the form of the influence of industrialization on traditional industry is different in different areas. Nantong belongs to the latter. The paper present that the modern machinery industry in the fields of weaving improved, but effect is very small, homespun occupied the leading position in the cotton cloth production. On the basis of that, By contrast, discusses the influence of spin by machine on the quality of hand-woven cloth in Nantong. And present that the development of textile mill with machine has a process, during a certain period, the yield of yarn produced with machine can not satisfy the need of weaving by hand, the yarn spun by hand was still the important source of hand weaving. Along with the development of cotton mill with machine, he yarn spun by hand gradually exited markets, and shifted to the family production to satisfy the daily need of family. In order to promote the quality of hand-woven cloth, weaving tools improved, which increased farmers'ability of hand-woven cloth weaving. On the basis of that, the production of hand-woven cloth had significantly developed (the third chapter of the thesis).Thirdly, the paper discusses the development of cotton textile trade in modern Nantong, to show the influence of production on trade. Trade organizations and trade mode being enriched is an important representation of trade development. The thesis discusses the process of the development of trade in cotton industry, on the basis of that, the paper classified those trade organizations, and do some research about the new mode in trade, to show the prosperity of trade in cotton industry (the fourth chapter of the thesis). The third section discusses some factors which impetus the development of cotton industry in modern Nantong, to reveal the underlying reasons, and find the relevant laws. Zhangjian's idea on industry and practice played a decisive role in the process of the development of cotton industry in Nantong. Besides, Spin with machine and the found of " Dasheng " cotton mill played an important role. A large amount of spadework was done, such as education, scientific research and so on, which acted as an important role. The new changes in mode of production played an active role. A series of relevant industrial policies for the development of China's cotton industry has provided favorable conditions (the fifth chapter of the thesis).The forth section discusses the influence brought by the development of cotton industry. The paper expounded the influence respectively from the changes in agriculture, changes in industrial situation, business prosperity, and the changes in social life(the sixth chapter of the thesis).Finally, the dissertation accumulates experience and find out the helpful inspiration from the process of the development of cotton industry in Nantong. In the process of China's modernization, with locational advantage, natural gift, taking into all factors, under the leadership of Zhangjian, opened up a road to development with the development of cotton industry as the core, closely based on the main line of the development, taken a series of practical measures, and produced great economic benefits in the area. On the basis of that, area construction advanced wholly, which had achieved remarkable achievements. Its development train of thought and the concrete practice still has much reference value to today's social and economic developments. Meanwhile, Looking back at history, we shall find that the process of the development of cotton industry in Nantong is not without obstacles. The setbacks among the process are worthy of pondering deeply over(the peroration of the thesis).
