| Abstract: In this thesis, I want to explore one of the most important concepts——Taiji——chang for its connotation in the history of Chinese Philosophy."Yidao bases on Qiankong" comes from the text of Yizhuan. There are threesignificant principles of Yidao: unchangeableness,simplicity and alternation. All ofthem base on Qiankong。"if Qiankong were damaged, so was Yidao." Taiji can notexist alone beyond Qiankong, it isn't proper to treat Taiji as a noumenon or originalcreating body which over the univers. From the later interpretation on Taiji, the mostnearly one is that interprets Taiji as Dazhong,which had been rarely opponented sinceHan dynasty to Qing dynasty.The meaning of Dazhong can penetrate between Hanxue and Songxue, melt theestrangements in the two schools Chengzhu and Luwang, unify three differentsystems:Tianren academic of Dong Zhongshu,ontology of Chengzhu and Hundunsystem of Zhou,Shao and Zhang. In one word, the meaning of Dazhong can runthrough the whole Confucian spirit. The rest meanings all have significant features intheir times, get both praise and blame, and every kind of disputes and contradictoriesamong these schools had been aroused by it. So, in this paper I want to take Dazhongas the original meaning of Taiji, and observe and study the spread of changes ofTaiji's connotation on this basis.In the late Warring States period, the Daoism's Hundun system theory whichbased on the interpretation of the concept of Taiji in Yizhuan began to infiltrate intoConfucianism, the result of the two systems' combinatione were The Heguanzi andThe Lvshi Spring and Autumn. They mixed the form of Taiji Liangyi in Yizhuanwith Hundun system in Laozi into one, the unification of Taiji and Yuanqi firstappeared materially in the two books.The Han scholars developed the views of Taiji along two routes: the first,because of Dong Zhongshu's Tianren theory which inheriting the old traditionalsystem of Yizhuan's,Taiji was interpreted as Dazhong in Tiandi.Yet Taiji and Yuanqididn't mix into one. The specific meaning of Yuanqi was connected with thecompromise of Yang and Yin, but particularly stressed on Yang. The second, as thefurther trace back to the original whole source of The Heguanzi and The Lvshi Spring and Autumn, both The Huannanzi and The Qianzaodu put a complete Wu before theoriginal whole source.However, if there is no Taiyi there should not be Taiji? To deal with thiscontradiction, Zhengxuan introduces such a idea——"Emerge of itself suddenly butwithout any source" into Taiji. Taiji emerges and grows by itself, Taiyi is equate toWu and not different from Taiji. These two important creative explanations makesHanxue transit into Xuanxue. Following it Wangbi makes a further improement thatcanceled Taiji Yuanqi, just remained only one meaning: Taiji goes to be Wu. Theidea,"Emerge of itself suddenly but without any source" which was interpreted asThe Only, all things autogenerate from their own Wu or Taiji. Wangbi's innovationlies in putting the new connotation of Taiji into a set of strict system,and so hecreated a learning of time.The Classical theory in Sui and Tang Dynasties followed Han and Wangbi'sTaiji, which had two meanings——Wu and Yuanqi, without original creating. Thepoints of Taiji in Sui and Tang's Classical theory develpoed by Hanyu and Li ao thathad influenced Song's Confucianists. That made the Songxue's created the originalpoints of Taiji all have three meanings:Yuanqi,Wu,Xing which supported not onlyby Huyuan,Shaoyong,Zhoudunyi but also by Simaguang,Zhangzai,Sushi.Thepoints of Taiji about Zhoudunyi's Taiji Tushuo typically represents the new fusionachievement.Although Ercheng was far from the new tradition, only retained one meaning ofTaiji: to be Xing, it developped the Qi's theory,"movement and motionlessness haveno a original point,Yinqi and Yangqi have no beginning", extremely. So, thestatement about Taiji Yuanqi had no agunments to be surported. Zhuxi inheritedErcheng' s theroies, attempted to mixed Zhou's system, in that while, melt with Han'sHuntianshuo. Unfortunately,all his idears were teared apart at the end, so he had tocope with the precedence between Taij and Qi again. |
