Xi'an Urban Spatial Structure Based On Sustainable Development Research

Since the concept of sustainable development has been proposed, it caused much concern in many fields. The early studies mainly focused on the environment, energy and economic fields, and in urban development field, its focus is the selection of urban sustainability indicator, the establishment of index system and evaluation of urban sustainability; but in recent years, research has shifted to the field of urban physical space. This thesis will focus on the analysis of urban spatial structure of Xi'an city, and try to explore its pattern of Xi'an urban spatial structure based on the concept of sustainable development.Since1980's, with the accelerating of economic globalization and urbanization process, implementation of Western Development Strategy of China and Xi'an international metropolis construction, economy in Xi'an has entered a period of rapid growth:urban development is getting faster and faster, urban population size and land use have been expanding. But in the meanwhile, problems in city have become increasingly prominent. The construction of Xi'an urban spatial structure based on sustainable development theory will be conductive to resolving the problems exists in Xi'an city, not only an effective way to change the development of traditional urban spatial structure, but also the exploration for ideal urban spatial pattern or sustainable urban spatial structure pattern.(1)Based on the current development status of the Xi'an city, combined the following related theory, such as theory of urban spatial structure, metropolitan spatial structure, transportation and urban spatial structure crossfeed, fractal city, and compact city, with Xian's reality, proposed the research topic which based on sustainable development of Xi'an urban spatial structure.(2)Analyze systematically the evolution, characteristics and evolution mechanism and its effectiveness study of Xi'an urban spatial structure.(3)Study in detail the sustainability of integration development of Xi'an urban spatial structure and urban transportation, focusing on the analysis of urban transportation's guiding role for urban spatial structure evolution, especially on transportation problems and Xi'an urban spatial structure evolution trends in the subway era. At last, proposed the counterneasures of Xi'an urban green transport development.(3)Verified that Xi＇an urban spatial structure had a fractal characteristic by using C-D function model based on Yanguang Chen's related theory, and further, concluded the negative allometry relative growth characteristic by using population-built-up area allometric growth model.(4)First constructed the index system for the calculation of Xi'an urban compactness based on the compact city theory, and use mathematical models to calculate Xi'an city compact index, and based on which analyzed the pattern of Xi'an city compactness'dynamic changes. One step further, analyzed the demographic compactness, transportation compactness, economy compactness, and land-use compactness＇changes pattern in2001-2010, and also their impacts.(5)Finally, proposed the concepts of urban spatial structure sustainability evaluation, Xi'an urban sustainable spatial structure development model and further research direction.
