Language is the main form of communication between people. When we speak, we try to relay our thoughts, feelings and plans. When we listen, we convert words into thought and try to grasp the speaker's feelings, thoughts and intentions. The human brain has different reflections towards different things but the degrees of reflection are not the same, some are lower and others are higher. Such as the degree of the feeling impression is lower than thought. Attaining the thought is significant.Modality is about a speaker's mode of speech. Using this form, the speaker can express one's attitude during social communication. Modal language is has a high level of meaning that is related to the whole sentence. There are many ways to express modal language. It could be reflected through sentence type and sentence structure. It could also be reflected in special phrases, such as the modal verb, dynamic auxiliary word, modal adverb etc. The means of express modal meaning through vocabulary is limited by sentence structure. It can only appear in certain positions of a sentence. But its influence on language meaning is not only related to the element of direct grammatic relations but to the whole sentence. This thesis will investigate the modal adverb.Except for knot language, the thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first and second chapters well illustrate present situation and significance of the modal adverb research and the definition and typical categorical problem of the modal adverb. Chapter 3 to 7 contain the main points of this thesis. They stress the analysis and phenomenon of the modal adverb.Chapter 3 - The definition of the character of the modal adverb. In the features of the Chinese adverb, the polysyllable and monosyllable phrases have different functions. However, in past adverb research, people have neglected the genre conditionality principle. Due to the big difference between modal adverb, research should proceed in differentcategories. In relation of the syntax, the modal adverb relates to the whole sentence. Therefore, it typically lies before the subject of a sentence. When they are used in sentence construction, modal adverbs not only have a typical distribution of lying before the subject, but they also have a non-typical distribution, ie. They could lie between the subject and predicate. The characters of the modal adverb are: 1. The modal adverb polishes the whole proposition, expresses the speaker's subjective judgement of the related proposition outside of the negative scope. The modal adverb has a typical function in interpersonal communication. The position of which expressing inter communication action composition is prior to other composition. The typical modal adverb is located in front of the modal verb. 2. As a syntax function, the monosyllabic modal adverb is weak typical modal adverb, but in language meaning, it still implies the speaker's subjective mentality. 3. Modality only has present tense, and does not have past or future tense. Past tense and future tense are expressed through sentence proposition meaning. 4. From the relationship of combining words and expressions, the modal adverb cannot be combined with bounded words.Chapter 4 - The distribution of the modal adverb according to sentence type. The modal adverb can be distributed in declarative, interrogative, exclamative and imperative sentences, It is usually distributed in declarative sentences but rarely in imperative and exclamatory sentences. Due to the conflict between the modal domain and interrogative domain, the modal adverb cannot be used in inquiring interrogative sentences. Even if it is used in interrogative sentences, it does not express query but instead expresses negation and counter-interrogative.Chapter 5 - The classification of the modal adverb.
