Researches On The Vocabulary System In Memories Of Lo-yang

This paper gives a synchronic description and diachronic annlysis to the vocabulary system in Memories of Lo - yang by combining the approach of thorough observation and statistic analysis, and describes the various rules about the development of the vocabulary system from Ancient Chinese to Middle Chinese.It is composed of the following chapters:The first chapter focus on the life of the auther Yang xuanzhi, the different versions and annotation, and all kinds of researches now being undergone at home and abroad, then, it tells the importance of this book in the research on Middle Chinese. In the second chapter, the vocabulary system in this book is compared to the standard Archaic Chinese, to the vocabulary of historical works and to the literature vocabulary; A conclusion is made that the ancient writen vocabulary had great influences on the vocabulary in this book, and some explanations to those questionable words in this book are also made. Chapter three mainly discuses the multiple influences between the Buddhism vocabulary and that in this book , and also discuses the function of its vocabulary system in the course of transforming Buddhism words into real Chinese. The forth chapter analyses some spoken words of that time. In the fifth chapter, A study is made to more than one hundred new - invented words and new usage during Wei- Jin period. The sixth chapter analyses the semantic structure , the distribution of parts of speech and semantic changes of multi - syllable - words. In the last chapter, the study is made toward three special lexical phenomena in this book.
