This dissertation's aim is to study how Six Canons came into being in China and how it influenced literati painting and art criticism in Yi Dynasty. Through its endless reinterpretation, Qi(breath) and Yun(rhyme) of Xie He's Six Canons became a core critic phrase in art criticism. Xie He's Six Canons, which concerns technique chiefly, was enriched by the following wisdom and has very important impact on art. creation, criticism and aesthetics theory of China. There has been a close relationship between China and Korea since ancient times. Thus, mature Chinese art cnticism has an inevitable impact on Korean development in painting and criticism. In Yi Dynasty, Chinese art criticism was introduced into Korea by Xu Youju's youyizhi Xu Youju introduced much, such as Liufa(Six Canons), Huabi(brush stroke), Sanping(three rank), Sanqu(three interest), Sanbing(three defect), Liuyao(s\x importance), Liuchang(six excellence) and so on. All these had a deep impact on Korean art circle at that time, fueled literati painting and art criticism in Yi Dynasty, giving birth to many literati painters and calligraphers, such as Jiang Xiyan brothers, Cheng Jian, Yin Douxu, Ding Ruoyong, Jin Zhengxi and others. Among them, Jin Zhengxi is the most accomplished, and acquires the reputation as the best literati painter in his time. Fragrance of scholarliness emanates from his painting and calligraphy. His ink chrysanthemum and mountain-and-river paintings rose to an elegant art state, being rated as masterpieces in literati art. From the Qiyun(spmt resonance) in his scholariiness, we can sense that Jin Zhengxi had a good understanding as well as a strong admiration for Six Canons, on the top of which Qiyun is put, just like many literati painters of (hat time, who admire and imitate Qi(breath) and Yun(rhyrne).
