Study On The Modernism Literature Trend And The Chinese Novel In The Period Of The 1980's

This thesis is a study on the modernism literature trend and the Chinese modern novel in the period of the 1980's. The thesis tries hard to have the whole world literature in view and have a macro-discussion of Chinese modernism literature trend, its basic character and its influence on Chinese literature concept. Then it discusses the motif and the artistic form of the Chinese native modernism novels in the 1980's.The thesis is divided into five parts except the preface. The introduction summarizes the basic situation and character of the spread of the modernism literature trend in China in the 20th century. The first chapter introduces the spreading period of the west modernism literature trend in China in 1980's. The first stage is called the foreign " contemporary literature " in the knowledge level; The second stage is called the west "capitalism literature" in the politics level; The third stage is called "the spirit of time" and "modernity" literature; The fourth stage is called the "other" literature and the "native" literature. The second chapter discusses the changing of Chinese literature concept under the influence of the west modernism literature trend. The modernism literature not only finds out the human being in the mean of "the sum total of. social relations", but also goes into people's spirit field. Consquently the modernism literature has recognized human being more profoundly than the former literature. As the modernism literature trend had been going into Chinese people's heart, Chinese literature concept began to change from the form to the substance. The changing of the concept of the literature function caused the changing of the concept of Chinese literature noumenon in 1980's. The third chapter discusses the motif selection of Chinese native modernism novels La 1980's. Because the modernism literature in based on the west humanism philosophy, the motif of Chinese modernism novels is probably as same as the west one. We can divide it roughly into three aspects: 1. absurdism; 2. fatalism; 3. the consciousness of vitality. The fourth chapter discusses the artistic forms of Chinese modernism novels in 1980's. Chinese modernism novels are influenced by the powerful and prosperous ones of the west. Meanwhile Chinese writers urged upon "stepping onto the world" and imitated frequently the west works, they didn't make mew artistic forms of modernism literature. There are about three types of the form of Chinese modernism novels in 1980's: 1. deformation and freehand brushwork; 2 .symbolism and allegory; 3 .dreaminess and fabrication.
