XuXu’s Novels And The Matuirty Of New Literature Modernism

Needless to say, XuXu is a talented writer, he made great achievements in novels,drama, poetry and so on, he is indeed what we call a "all-rounder". But versatile as he is,he received unfair treatment in the literature history. Presumably it is his nonmainstream attitude that caused different evaluations among the history of literature andhis readers. Apart from XuXu’s talent, people most admire the maturity of modernismthat manifested in his novel.This paper tries to proceed from XuXu and his novel to analyzing the rationalconstruction of new literature of modernism. The thesis consists of five chapters, the firstchapter is the emotional to the rational course of Chinese new modernist literature, thischapter includes universal penetration of Western modernism, historical footprints of thedevelopment of new modernist literary, new literary modernism’s development from the1930s’ experiencing the feeling to1940s’ rational judgement, as well as the aestheticconstruction of XuXu’s novel and modernistic literature. The second chapter is XuXu’sliterary and artistic thought, this chapter includes the resources of XuXu’s modernismtheory and XuXu’s literary thought of modern civilization, the writer, the essence ofliterature and art forms of content. The third chapter is the contemplation of XuXu’snovel, this chapter discussed the literary theme of XuXu’s novel, namely the pursuit oflove and the deep sorrow after love faded, display of the beauty and ugliness in humannature and philosophical thinking and reflection of human nature, philosophical andreligious reflection regarding life and individual existence. The fourth chapter: thenarrative techniques. This chapter includes XuXu’s novels’ modernistic narrativetechniques, from the perspective of the narrative theory, in-depth analysis of the text ofthe novel, XuXu’s novels in the narrative perspective, narrative time, narrative structure.The fifth chapter: XuXu’s novels and the rational construction of new literaturemodernism’s development, it includes the combination of modernism, romanticism andrealism. The final conclusion part, pointed out that there are still some flaws in XuXu’snovel, but like XuXu once said himself,"I admire beauty, admire realism, admire good," his art of self-discipline and broad mind is really respectable, his talent and his artisticachievements should not be overshadowed by the flaws and the mainstream ideology.
