| Born in 1982, Han han is among the representatives for the born-after-1980 writers. In 1999, he won the first prize in the first New Concept Composition Competition with his work"Pee from inside a Glass". However, he stayed down because of failure in seven subjects in the final exams. This triggered furious debates in the society over a series of educations issues like, what kinds of talents schools should cultivate, all-arounders or talented professionals. The publication of his novel Three-layered Doorin May 2000 rang up the curtain of born-after-1980 writers'entering the literature circle. Soon after that, Han han made a decision to quit school, which provoked a social discussion on the Han han phenomenon. From the first novel Three-layered Door in 2000 to the publication of His Country in 2009, Han han had been all the way active, with a preferable sale of his works. Despite all this, what arracts the public has always been something additional to his works rather than his works. For instance, in 2000, what the public were concerned about was some news regarding him, like his failure in seven subjects and his drop from school as well as his declination of the letter of admission to Fudan University, a celebrated university in China. Later, the public transferred their focus onto things like his identity as a racing driver, the tense debate between him and Bai ye, a literature critic, his criticism on literature masters like Lao She and Ba Jin, series of aggressive remarks and the rumors about him rather than his literature works.And then, strange things arouse from Han han. Though he owes much of his fame to his oustanding writing, people seem to have forgoten that he is a writer, rather regarding him a phenomenon of culture, or education or society. His existence is signified more phenomenally than literarily. What is more worth ruminating over is the attitude of the mainstream literature reviewers. They seem to hold an attitude of group evading towards the born-after-1980 writers. Such a status of silence remained until 2004, when media including newspapers, magazines and websites began to respond to the born-after-1980 writers, with Han han among them. The research of the critics always lagged behind the production of the born-after-1980 writers.Divided into four major chapters, including Han han's life and literature, ideological image of his novels, artistic sights of his novels and his development prospective, this thesis attempts to revivify a comparatively real Han han and a group of the born-after-1980 writers.Chapter One deals with his life and literature. From the perspectives of his recognition of Shanghai culture, becoming famous when still young and his personality, Han han and New Concept Composition Competition, Han han and youth's consumption market, Han han and networks, this chapter talks about the influence on his literature creation by his life experiences.Chapter Two is the ideological image of his novel. It fulfills the task of intepretation of the ideological characteristics embodied in the young growth and cruel experience, concern of the social reality, anti-tradition cultural psychology, cultural implication of postmodernism.Chapter Three is the artistic sights of his novels. It deals with the art features of Han han's novels from the perspectives of the unique narrative features of novels, humorous and ironical style of writing, as well as rich and particular imagination.Chapter Four is the forecast of Han han's future development. In spite of the great achievement he has made in literature, Han han has flaws in literature writing, like copying writing, singleness of narration and over dependence on markets.To sum up, Han han is a greatly potential writer. How his future literature develops depends on his own choice.
