Imperial clan is result of authoritarians' politics. They are always a conspicuous group in Chinese ancient history. The period of Tang and Song dynasties is an important turning point in Chinese traditional society. After middle and later stage of Tang dynasty, great changes have taken place in politics, economy, culture and various aspects of society, as well as in the imperial clan.Based on the predecessor's research achievement, more sources have been cited, and explore systematically those aspects relating to imperial clan of Song Dynasty, such as administrative organs, genealogical tree edit, right in law, education, election, examination, appointment and other system, and 1 also make the analysis statistically of the population, the number of Jinshi (successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations),of local administrations and other important aspects.The profound research to the specific group will help us to understand the society of Song dynasty more comprehensively, and it will also help us to understand the historical turning point of Tang-Song and influence to Ming and Qing Dynasties more deeply.The main body is divided into 7 chapters.The first chapter discusses the administrative institutions of imperial clan of Song Dynasty. In Song dynasty, the imperial clan is not limited in the latest five descendants of its own, but includes all the descendants of imperial kinsmen system. So, outside the central bureaucratic institutions, there comes an independent imperial clan administrative institution, which affected Ming and Qing dynasties substantially.The second chapter probe into jointly signed report system, various kinds of imperial clan's genealogical trees, specific compilation style of the imperial clan of Song dynasty, and collects the statistic to make a through analysis of the population of all imperial clan by use of relative historical sources.The third chapter mainly discusses law administration of imperial clan, which firstly makes systematical analysis of legislation of specific law for the imperial clan, procedure of judicial administration, measurement of penalty and punishment to imperial clans.The fourth chapter distinguish the differences between Gongxue and Zongxue, and makes further analysis of the education form and development situation of the imperil clan of Song dynasty.The fifth chapter deals with the imperial examination which was of great importance to those who want to be one of the bureaucratic class. Imperial clan was not the same as bureaucrat; the selection way is various and the selection process is relatively flexible, thus made superfluous and stale of the imperial officials.The sixth chapter mainly inquired into the different situation of prefecture between close and distant relatives, and points out that there were distinctive differences in various periods in Song dynasty; we can't make the hasty conclusion.The seventh chapter analyses the cultural achievement of Song dynasty's imperial clan from the aspects of literature, art and academy.
