Research On Plant-naming In Acient Chinese

The research on plant-naming is the important part of the research on names in traditional linguistics.Based on the congnition of the relative demonstration of the names, the thesis researches the plant-naming in ancient Chinese roundly and systemically.and summarizes the characters and laws of the plant-naming by carefully investigating individual plant-naming reason.This thesis mainly covers the following aspects:Firstly,the author views the former research on plant-naming,points out the shows of the improper and inaccurate interpretation of plant-naming reason:the explanation of the surface meaning of the words is improper;the choice of the words that explain the names of plants is wrong;change the explained words and the explanation is circuitous;multifarious explanation exists together;the rhetorical meaning of the plant names is wrongly regarded as plant-naming reason;transliterate foreign words is wrongly explained.The author holds that these improper interpretation has some reasons: plant-naming is wrongly interpreted literally or by abusing sounds;etymeme is not researched or researched wrongly;some false points about plant-naming are simply followed.Secondly,the thesis analysizes the lexical nature ,form, characteristics of plant-naming meaning by contrasting the etymeme, plant-naming meaning is the etymological meaning of the names and is the lexical element that shows the presentative characteristics used as basis of plant-naming; in the interior of the lexical meaning .plant-naming meaning shows sememe group that consists indicative sememes and characteristic sememes,in the exterior of morphology, plant-naming meaning shows morpheme or morpheme group; the lexical characteristics of plant-naming meaning conclude:suggestiveness,materiality,composite.The author summarizes seven ways by which searching plant-naming reason: to relate and compare cognates; to analysize lexical meaning;to have recourse to dialects; to investigate traditional research;to test and verify some plant-naming reason by biology and culture;to research by intergrated methods, and so on.Thirdly,plants are named in accordance with their salient features,the general laws of choice are these:the great majority of plant-naming come from visual perception that is figure, design and color,behaviour;the shape is the priority in the visual perception;the state is the priority in the shape;the priority of size and round description are observed in the desicription of the respective physical image. Analogy.imagery, single and culture are special thought and awareness reflected in the course of plant naming. Fourthly.the author describes and concludes four ways of word-making: word-making by pronunciation, which mainly shows sound-changing; word-making by meaning,which mainly shows the extension of concept meaning and the derivation of etymeme;word-making by grammar ,which mainly shows the compound of the roots and derivation of the prefix or the suffix;word-making by rhetoric,which mainly shows the metaphor,transferred epithet,words to be avoided as taboo.
