The Modernist Poetry Under Chinese Context

The Nine-leaf School of Poetry came into being in the late 1940s in the area under GuoMingDang's administration, but wasn't well-known until 1980s with the publication of The Selection of Nine-leaf .The Nine-leaf refers to nine poets: Xin Di, Chen Jingrong, Tang Shi, Hang Yuehe, Tang Qi, Zheng Ming, Du Yunxie, Yuan Kejia, Mu Dan. The studies of these poets had started from 1940s, interrupted for 30 years, resumed in 1980s, and blossomed in 1990s .From the perspective of Close reading of the New Critism, Influent Study of the Comparative Literature, culture study and literary psychology and in Chinese context, this dissertation seeks to explore the school's birth and development, its characteristics , especially its classification and the poems which were often neglected by other scholarships.This dissertation consists two parts. The first part studies the Nine-leaf as a whole. While most critics only focused on Yuan Kejia and Tang Shi's poetic theory, this dissertation reviews the viewpoints of all the members of the school. This dissertation emphasizes their philosophic poems, ironic poems, object poems, and urban image in their poems.The second part makes close-reading on every poet. Xin Di, Zheng Ming and Mu Dan are analyzed from a typical image in their poems to provide an overall picture or a new understanding of their poems. The chapter about Chen Jingrong is focused on her psychologist change in 1945 in Chongqing. Some chapters are on "the modern epics" of Du Yunxie, Tang Qi and Hang Yuehe. But "the modern epics" are not all of their poem writing, and other kinds of their poems are analyzed in the first section.A dissertation is a dialogue not only between the researcher and the research subject, but also one between the researcher and other researchers. The characteristic of this dissertation is not comprehensive, but having it own viewpoint.
